K&N FIPK No More
I didn't notice any gains between the paper filter and the K&N. Only advantage that would be noticed is the life of the filter. Paper will get thrown out every 3000-6000 miles, K&N will last longer, but need to be cleaned every 3000-6000 miles.
reading for anyone with interest in filter types...paper, oiled gauze, foam, oiled foam, etc:

ok I have pics and some results from doing this mod. My results are that I gained more "butt" dyno power and I drove about 250 miles on this conversion all highway and my gas mileage went to 19. I know that is only one reading but it was averaging15 on highway. plus it looks a lot better IMO. Here are the pics and a big Thank You to Silver_Dodge!!!!!

Well now after hours of reading this thread,,lol. I am convinced, I have a K&N setup on mine but one of the brackets broke so I was wondering what to do. I seen K&N actually offers the round filter fo rthe Dokota V6 & V8's so I couldnt figure out why they didnt offer it for the full size Rams, now that I have seen that you have done it and it fits and works Thats the route I am going, thanks for all the good info on this. Plus I think the black will look great under the hood of my Black Ram.
Ok, just to clarify - you are saying the the round air cleaners give you more power than the K&N style cold air intakes that have the box over on the passenger side fender?
I just bought an Edelbrock ProFlo filter for mine. It's a triangle shape and has an open top. It has given me more power already, especially at higher RPMs, and it is nice to hear the engine sucking the air through the filter. Looks pretty good too. I'll try to get a pic up soon...
The tracks are opening up for Test& Tunepasses down here, so I'll make a trip out there within the next two weeks and compare ETs on the stock intake and the ProFlo to see just how much it helped...

Well I just got done with the install and it was a little more painful than what I expected but I did get er dun. It looks great and sounds good too real old school. Anyway the new filter that came with the Mopar a/c just would not fit, I had to buy a smaller (shorter) filter I think it was about 2.5 or 2.75 even it was a really tight fit. Anybody else with a 97 5.9 have any problems with the filter size. Anyway I do like it and can't wait to go play![sm=badbadbad.gif] Thanks Silver Dodge!!!!!!
You mean it wouldn't fit height wise? What was interfering? The paper filter that comes with the Mopar is 2.75" tall, and I seemed to have plenty of room fitting it. I even fit the K&N that is 2.89".
Oh, and we want to see pics.
