Better MPG?
First off, I would like to say thank you for all the replies I got from my first post. Now I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me a way to spend less gas in a truck of that size(besides not driving it). I know some aftermarket exhausts, for example, say that they will "improve gas milage." I would like to know if this is true or are they just blowing smoke. Thanks!
Dude your driving a truck if you want to get good gas mileage get a car. I have a 3/4 ton with a 360 it gets like 10-12 mpg, but I don't care that is why I have a car. Anyway I suppose putting an exhuast and a high flow intake might help a little.
Just becasue you drive a truck doens't mean you don't want better MPG...I want better MPG because it saves money....
I really don't get why people say "go buy a car if you want mpg" when people ask. Sure it'd be nice to get 30 mpg but I don't drive a car because I don't want to drivea a little ***** piece of crap, even though I want the MPG of a car, so if your gonna come on here and not help and just tell people to stop bitching, just go ahead and don't say a word.
mxzguy500- There are a few things you can do to get some better mpg. The best your probably gonna see with a 5.2 or 5.9 is about 13city and 17-18 highway. Exhausts and intakes can help your engine breath better which makes them work less, so you can see a gain. Unfortunitially its very miniscual. Your best bet is to run some cleaners through the engine and get it working in better shape. I did this and got 10/14 and now I get 13/17. Heres what I did:
1. Injector cleaner- Run a bottle through in a little higher concentration then the bottle says, nothing to crasy though
2. Mopar Combusion Chamber Cleaner or Seafoam- This gets the carbom out of the engine and over all makes it run better.
3. Synthetic Oil
4. Highflow Air Filter- Either a K&N drop in, or a whole cold air intake
5. Marvel Mystery Oil- This helped me the most actually. Go buy a quart at Wal Mart. I changed my oil with Synthetic and put a 1/2 quart in the crank with the oil. The other 1/2 quart I put in the gas tank. When I did this I got 17.25 mpg on a whole tank of highway driving, and now I get 13 city too, not to bad for some cheap addatives the clean the engine up! You can search for either Marvel Mystery Oil or MMO on here and you'll find lots of stuff.

i really dont see you getting any better than 2-3 mpg without getting a car.
i dont care though, i love my truck and will never bitch out and get a car. i put the extremely low amount of money that i can into making my truck the most efficient and most powerfull thing that i can possibly put together.
bottom line, brother... youve got a truck, not a car. i'm drunk right now and im not good at math, but i think that no matter how efficient you make your truck, it still sucks on mpgs

With the coming of colder winter air temperatures,
removing the stock 5 blade fan from the viscous clutch
and using a block heater on a timer to pre-warm the engine in the morning
are two MPG improvers that are 'cost effective' and should be considered.
Many more ideas in this long article
which is best printed out

Ralph Gilles is saying that he intends to make the Ram
more aerodynamic for better MPG
and yet still look bold and aggressive

drive like your 100 years old. i rarely take my truck over 1750 rpms and im doing approx 15-16 city with the 360. almost unbelievable, but the math does not lie.
+1 for the "5 step mpg improvement process" lol. First thing i did when i got my truck, Lucas injector cleaner and seafoam. also, good plugs and wires go a loooong way.
the one thing everyone has passed over...msd ignition. 6AL or something that these trucks like better (pardon my lack of knowledge about these trucks, this is my first experience with dodges). The msd will give a more full burn of the fuel, which means more power, which means less throttle to get where your goin, which means better mpg.

Just remember, if your truck is paid off, then who gives a **** what the price of gas is? I bought my truck in June 2005, after having been without one for a few years. It sucked. It was down from February 2006 until just a few weeks ago. I hauled a bunch of car engines, transmissions, and a body on my 18' trailer from Oklahoma to Alabama. I figured I was getting 12.5mpg. Freaking awesome!
Of course, I mildly modded the engine as well

The next person that says go get a car I'm gonna drive over there and kick you in the ***** (or baby maker) [:'(]
Accelerating slowly can help in some cases, but if you baby the truck the WHOLE time you drive it its gonna get carbon and other deposit build ups over time. Although lower RPM usually means not using as much gas, usually the best MPG occurs not at the lowest RPM but at the RPM where the hp and tq are the highest. When in that zone the engine is working very effectivly. Thats kinda in a perfect world though ha

I agree with Socha_62. Just because I drive a truck doesn't mean I throw my hands in the air and not try to improve my mileage.
All the suggestions here are cumulative. No single item will give you a drastic increase in mileage. In addition to other suggestions: Tire pressure. I know it's mundane, but you can end up using 1/2% to 2% more fuel if your tires aren't all properly inflated. I learned a visual inspection doesn't always cut it. It's cheap and easy to do.
