Are ya sure your cats clogged? My mpg dropped down in the past month alot, apparently because of oxygenated gas or somthing. I just went on a trip and averaged 11.8 on the highway with some stop and go traffic. And around town i think i just did it a few days ago, and it was somthing like 10.5. ****ty if ya ask me. Oh well. Anyways, if you wanna gut your cat, i'd say the easiest way on these trucks would be to cut open the bottom of the cat - Cut somthing like a square, but only cut 3 sides of it and bent the tab you made down, break apart the inside, push it back up and weld it together again. Thats only helpful if you own or have access to a welder or course. I ended up just replacing mine with a new one. It was easier. The only part that sucked was trying to get the bolts out of the passenger side of the truck. Well good luck!

You can sell cats here in ohio . They're worth a lot because of the material they're made of.
My brother worked at a junk yard for one summer and they made a butt load off recycling old cats .
So I would say put in some pipe and save yourself some time and maybe get a little money out of the deal.
