Default Torque Converter

2000 Ram TC keeps shifting in and out at most speeds over 30 mph. Check engine light does NOT come on. I took it to a dealer and he told me no big deal don't worry about it, but it is getting worse the more I drive it.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Check your brake light switch. If the brake light switch is bad or misadjusted, you will have trouble keeping the cruise control engaged as well as an erratic tc locking and unlocking.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. The cruise control seems to be working fine but the TC still shifts in and out. It is almost like a skip in the engine. Could a very slight skip cause the TC to engage in and out?

throtlle postion sensor. its on the drivers side of the throttle body

when the tps goes bad it gets "noisy". the signal a noisy tps sends back to the pcm tells it that the throttle is open farther than it really is and the pcm unlocks the torque converter. it makes the TC lock and un-lock

i pulled this info from another thread.

the idle air control motor (iac) is on the back of the throttle body. could be causing some problems for you also. take it out and clean it with some throttle body cleaner.

Glad that it seemed to fix the problem! For peace of mind my truck was doing the exact same thing you described and it turned out to be the TPS was bad.

Cleaning the TPS fixed it? usually the only way to fix a TPS is to buy anew one.
