Most auto parts stores (i.e. Autozone, NAPA, Checker) will read your codes for free.

 

For my 98 2500 the sensor is on top of the rearend with a two wire electrical connector, if I rememeber correctly. I had an abs light on and at first my speedometer was ok then after about a week i noticed the speedometer didn't move until i was rolling and then it would shoot up to 25mph. The sensor is about a 30 min job, which included getting the tools out, getting my butt under the truck and swapping the part. (It's easy.)

 

i've ordered my part, and will be replacing it on a snowbank.

 

P0720 with a CEL is the speed sensor on the tranny. The RWSS doesn't throw a code. It DOES set the ABS and Brake warnings though along with speedo/odo errors. My speedometer was completely dead while others report 0 m/kph indication until a higher speed is achieved and then the needle jumps up.

Looks like you have BOTH sensors bad.

Both are a quick and easy fix.

well, i've been really lucky, the lights hav't popped on again, yet. and the CEL hasn't come on again.

oddly. once i filled the truck back up full, and with premium gas, no problems.

i hav't installed the sensor yet, so at least i have a spare.

 

Hey sinister. I was wondering about the update on your truck. My abs and brake light just started coming on on saturday also. Did you switch out the sensor?

 

Are your speedometer and odometer dicked up too? If so, yeah, it's the RWSS.

 

no i didnt notice any changes on them they seem to work fine. the lights com on about 5 min when i start driving.

 

Well.....There's your problem! Long ago my wife lost her Ram driving privileges do to a new noise or issue showing up whenever she did!

 

had that problem with my ram the first week i bought it..the ABS light came on but i didnt notice anything wierd with the braking,i had it checked out and it was a sensor,they replaced it and a week later brake light came on along with my ABS light,but this time i started to notice a softness in the brake pedal,this went on for about 3-4 days until one day going down a hill i hit my brakes and i didnt have any and smoke started rolling out from the fender well..apparently there was a small hole in my brake line and it eventually got bigger and sprayed the exhaust with fluid which caused the smoke and my lines where coverd in glowing red ash..scary feeling to loose your brakes goin down hill at 40+MPH.
