Brake and ABS light turns on
I have a00 2500 with 8.0. I have been reading that all of you with the 5.9 are having this problem. The only time I have ever had a brake light indicator or issues with the ABS was when the sensor (speed or brake) on the front axle bearings/hubs had issues. I had just upgraded gearing from 3.55 to 4.10...cleaned sensor (right behind rotor) and problem went away.
One year ago hub/bearing on driver side was going out...brake power was decreasing and antilock brake light was coming on. Sensor was picking up dry/dirty conditions and was causing brakes to fail.
This winter brakes were failing with occasional anti lock brake sensor tripping again. Low and behold the passenger side bearing/hub was going. Put in a new one and now I have no braking problems and no lights on the dash.
Something to ponder for your toys, especially if any of you have any hard miles or wheeling.

OK so I am jumping into a handfull of fixes on my 99 Durango 4x4. I too have the ABS and the brake light on, comes on right after start up. No speedo flux. I found the rear diff part at Kragen (45) and RockAuto (22), but is this the culprit? I don't wanna go and replace this if this is not my issue. One of the thinks I need to repace are my shoes and pads, I have no grinding but I have had the beast for 4 years and I am sure its time. First thing I checked several months ago was the fluid... but that is fine. I will say this, there is no anti lock. Slam on the brakes and the rear locks up and fishtails. She is also gettin new shocks and probably gonna repack the bearing and replace the race and seals. She has been neglected and I finally have the money to pamper her.
I am with zosoa on the wife and what she is able to drive and the "mysterious issues" like a perfectly good old battery dying at the end of its life while she was out shopping one Saturday, my first response was not "yeah I knew it was going but what did you leave on". As well as pampering the beast I am replacing cady converters on her car so we will be back to a 2 car family (one since Feb)

I had this problem where my Speedo would not read untill i hit around 20mph and the ABS and Brake light would come on. It was the Speed Sensor on rear pumpkin. less then 15bucks from deler and a 5 min fix, Luckly my buddy owns a shop and has the computer chysler computer to reset my CE light and when I called him he instantly knew what the problem was.
MrKevin, Did you find out why its on?

Haha, I might sound like the bad guy for doing this, but my rwal speed sensor went out and I havent gone out to fix it
My reasoning is that the rwal speed sensor is also what the truck reads out its miles onto the odometer and I kinda like the idea of my odometer not raising anymore. So now I have a gps unit that reads out my speed for me so I dont have to use the speedo
