You do not need to drill a hole in your thermostat, and I will argue that with ANYONE on this board. It is a complete and utter crock. Park the truck on service ramps if you cannot park it on an incline. Top off the radiator and then run it until the engine reaches the desired temperature (with the radiator cap off from the start). Keep an eye on the coolant level as it drops, topping it off on occasion. Be prepared for when the air starts to work it's way out of the system as the radiator will "burp", with some bits of coolant, but mostly a rush of air coming out of the radiator. Total time spent will be approximately 20 minutes topping off the system.

I also recommend against the 180º t-stat as well, but other will come in claiming it causes the engine to create more power.

I would not argue that a 180 "creates" more power. What it does is allow the engine to run a little cooler so that other mods that do create more power will be less likely to result in pinging. By itself though, it will not create any noticable power. Those who say it does are just hoping so hard that they will see gains from everything they bolt on that they trick themselves into thinking a simple t-stat change made a notiocable performance difference.

like i said i dont want to do it for the mod i just want to know if it will help the motor last longer in the long run by cooling it better or will it do more damage like the codes....right now i think it it stuck open so i am going to change it but i dont know which one to put in it....whichever i wont drill the hole cause i have the ramps and i can burp it that way but still dont know if it will be the 180 or 195....i think i will just put 195 in it because that is what is in it already unless i can be convinced that i should put in the 180!!!!like i said i am not going to do it for the "more power" deal!!!
