OK, I'm here. Read my engine threads in my sigline. Like Steve says, I will swear by cutting the runners and having the modified intake mated to a Fastman TB. Nothing like getting pissed at people in traffic, mashing the throttle, and zipping past them in my large, Teal colored truck.

I'm averaging about 14mpg in regular driving, and 13.5mpg hauling my 18' trailer. My next big plans are to go through my transmission with stronger components. I'm betting I will have better performance then.
that says alot right there.... only a .5 mpg drop in towing??? all hiway I'd assume, whats the trailer weigh?
Primarily highway towing. I will have a close figure this weekend. I have the trailer loaded with some scrap metal for salvage. I'll post the weight of the trailer and the truck here both full and empty.

Hey, guys great info . I really appreciate the response . This is some great info and pics u guys put together .
I do have one question though . Steve u said it would be worth installing roller rockers with the new heads .
I agree , but what do u have to do to install them . I just wanted to know if there was any thing special u have to buy or have machined to add the roller rockers. Istill have a lot to read in the engine thread before I start doin anything .

I believe Steve stated roller rockers are the way to go. I could not afford them, so I reused my old rockers. I have a connection who can get me parts at the dealership at cost +10%, so I am planning the 1.7 rockers and Viper lifters next spring.

BTW - I am no expert. This was my first solo engine building experience. I believe my timing is off by a slight bit. Boy, did I learn a lesson about setting the distributor! How do your injectors and fuel rail look?

Well, this ain't my first picnic , but it will be the first time tearing into a dodge .
My main experience is small block chevys and big block fords.
The fuel rail doesn't appear to have any probs injectors look kinda grimey so I bet they could use changeing or cleaning and some new seals if I reuse them . There is desiel shop down south of me that will check the injectors flow rate for me so I'll probably do that.
I have so far done bolt on power adders . I was hoping to avoid tearing into this thing , but it sounds like there is power to be gained .
So maybe by next fair season I'll have somethin for those 8.1 chevys at thetruck pulls .

Cool news,
I just called the local junk yard he will let me have a stock intake and plenum off a 1998 1500 5.9 for 40.00 if I pull it off.
This is great . I can rip on this motor and see how some of the parts come off and then I can work on this intake with out putting my truck outof commission. Just think if I play my cards right I might be able to pull this all off in a week if I start ordering parts .

p.s The reseason I say a week is I'm out of work until after the new year . What a great x-mas present . I don't care I put my money away.

I recommend you grab the injectors off of the junk truck as well. I had a friend clean my injectors with a sonic cleaner. That's a lot better than paying $70 each for them.

just make sure they are the same style injector... I had injectors off a 99 r/t that were a different style plug than what I had on my harness.

on the torque wrench... home depot of all places as one that is 3/8 drive inch lbs... works great and has it's own case.

when I did my RR's I bought the kit, had the studs, rods, guide plates & rockers. easy install, just take out old parts and put in new parts. the tricky part was adjusting the rockers. once you get the hang of it, it's easy.

At some stage it would be a great service if some 5.9V8 magnum owners would test stock 'Kegger', cut Kegger, Mopar Performance MPI and Edelbrock AirGap for the Magnum intake manifolds.

My bet for the best 1500-3500 rpm Torque would be a stock, uncut Kegger that has had the 'frog hair' aluminum casting roughness knocked off the inside with a air grinder and then coated inside and out with a heat reflecting coating like you can new buy in a DIY kit.

My bet for best 4500-5500 rpm peak horsepower would be the Edelbrock AirGap for the Magnum manifold.

Hank, did edelbrock come out with a new manifold? the only air gap mani's i've seen dont have the injector bores and look to be for carb motors only (mopar ones IDK about the other mfg's).

I was hesitant to cut too much off the 2nd manifold and ulitmately cut .25~.5" off. performance was not that great when compared to the 1.5" cut. I could not tell of any low end loss between the 2 manifolds, mileage did not change either between them from what I could tell...

Edelbrock needs to update their website
but if you first go to this weblink
on the Edelbrock Aluminum Magnum Cylinder heads:

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...r_sb_rpm.shtml

notice the link at the lower left refering you to their #7577 intake manifold
at this weblink:

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...r_sb_rpm.shtml

The picture here is out of date

The newest pictures and descriptions of this air gap in the magazine shows bosses on the runners for fitting fuel injectors
