Default Need info on cutting intake runners.

Hi, yall I need some info on cutting the intake runners. One of the other guys on another thread suggested it to me and said it would work well with my 52mm TB. What I want to know is what the pros and cons are . How long will it take to do . Is it expensive and will this take away from everyday driveability. Thanks in advance

awesome, started a new thread...

read post #10 of this thread... cutting them is time consuming and will test your patients... VWandDodge (Gary) can vouch for that statement...

That is deffinetly a good tip . I have been thinkin about havin my heads reworked and have the intake flowed to match them .The local speed shop said they could port and polish , flow them and, replace vavle seals and relap the valves for right around 500.00 . That's not too horrible I don't think. So in the process I could probably get them to cut .5 off the intake runners too. I just hope I don't go to far . This is my daily driver and I push snow and haul my car to dragstrip when I can afford it . But then again a motor is just aair pump so increaseing the flow and makin it smoother should just make itmore efficient.

stock heads are junk... re-read the thread & post #10... they crack between the valve seats. Hughes motors has a replacement set that you can get built for $720 or so a pair. they use stock parts for that price but for what you need it's more than good enough. I would have gone this route if they were available when I did my head swap... they are supposed to out flow the r/t's and for an every day driver, it's worth it.

on the runners, I did 2 manifolds... the 2nd was .25~.5" off and didnt notice much from stock. the 1.5" was definately the way to go. there was not much loss in low end if any at all.

I'll have to look up the Hughes heads , I've heard a lot of bad stuff about the stock ones ,but I figured I was just one of the lucky few not havin problems. U think I could get away with more than .5 huh. Well I 'll do some pricin and see what the speed shop can do for me . Cause I do want the heads flowed and to the intake . It's not much of a gain ,but every little bit helps.

with your motor being a 5.9... 1.5" is the way to go. I did ALOT of research before cutting my 1st manifold and tried a 2nd one... the 1st was much better than the 2nd. do the intake mod, then get some gibson headers... you'll be set.

How much can I pick up a stock intake at the junk yard for . If it's like 50.00 or less I'll get a second to practice on .

depends on the yards in your area... I came across a fleet of airport suttles that all had the kegger intake on them. if I were motivated back then I would have yanked them. they were something like $25 bux. the one I did find when I was looking for my 2nd was $75 bux.

OK, I'm here. Read my engine threads in my sigline. Like Steve says, I will swear by cutting the runners and having the modified intake mated to a Fastman TB. Nothing like getting pissed at people in traffic, mashing the throttle, and zipping past them in my large, Teal colored truck.

I'm averaging about 14mpg in regular driving, and 13.5mpg hauling my 18' trailer. My next big plans are to go through my transmission with stronger components. I'm betting I will have better performance then.
