Hope this helps
It looks more like aHot Air Intake to me. Are you just looking to use the airbox and some of the fittings, and brew your own piping? If you're going to buy a good filter, it's probably ok. Just make sure everything seals up good.I would not use a cheap filter myself, engine wear will cost a lot more in the long run than acheap filter will save, no matter how many times you can reuse it. Sounds like you want a K&N filter, anyway.
42 bucks with shipping, and you still need to buy a filter? The one Padodgeram linked to might be a better deal. I'm not familiar with the Airaid, but I'm sure you can find a lot of info about it here. The one in the link doesn't appear to have any kind of cold air box, either.
I'm a little wary of using a K&N for daily driver use, as well. They've been shown to flow more dirt than paper (stock type) filters. (Anyone have different evidence?)Excellent performance filter though, for racing, I think.

though this is my first truck, I have used K&N on everything I have ever owned, from a neon all the way to my wife's jeep's, I don't have any evidence to validate a k&n but just the theory itself and common knowledge says it all, the filter material is more pourous, so that there is higher air flow, but, it has the oil to attract the dirt so that it wont get through.

I've owned both a Airaid setup and a FIPK and neither one made as as big of a performance difference as the 14x3 air cleaner I installed last week! And best yet, I have less than $35 invested!
