Default 02 2500 valve problems

i posted a while ago regarding my 02 2500 ram having no power and my exhaust manifold glowing red.well i brought it back to the dealer for the 4th time since i bought it a month ago and they did a compression check and onmy number 6 cylinder the compression was low so they say theexhaust valve wasnt seating properly. so there in the process of tearing the motor down because of this. my question is could this be the cause of my eratic idle and my rpms surging while driving and my truck dragging so bad it feels like my brakes are locked. thanks for the help

Sounds like a plugged cat to me. That's a pretty common problem with these trucks, even in a truck as new as 2002.

just got back from the dealer and they have to replace my heads there cracked i couldnt believe it but i saw it the valves were torched and continueosly over heated and the dealer says they have to replace the heads completely.and depending on the cost of the heads to a slightly used motor they may just replace the motor. im soo pi$$ed off i got rid of a truck with no problems at all just so i could have a bigger truck for towing and with 50 k mi and 1 month owning it its junk.

How badly are the heads cracked? And where are they cracked? Can you just go find used heads instead of a used block?

The truck isn't junk, just the heads. As someone pointed out, I bet the Cat is bad.

the dealer is more than likely going to put new heads on it .but if the price of the block is close to the price of the heads there going to go that route.id rather them just change my heads and be done with it.the heads were cracked on the underside of the head straight across the head in between the valves.i know the truck isnt junk im just soo mad at this whole thing.and i hate the fact that someone is tearing into my motor at 50k mi.and i know there are other issues the trucks rpms were still surging (tps) and the tranny still was shifting weird. and i agree on the cat. there were no indications of this other than excessive power loss.but im not sure if the problem with the heads would cause the red exhaust manifold and that much power loss and the other issues so i know im not done with problems yet.on the bright side the dealer has ben great about this and they even gave me a truck for the day to pick up my quad at the dealer so i wouldnt be charged storage fees. part of me says tell them to get me a new truck but on the other hand i love this truck its my first dodge but i think the interior is perfectly laid out the truck has a great look and sooner or later will have lots of power.well atleast its being taken care of and not out of my wallet.

see if they'll put some aftermarket heads on there if you'll split the difference. maybe some r/t heads.
