2001 sport, off road???????????
want to order a new grill for my truck but they all say not for sport models, how can i tell if i have a sport model or if i have the offroad pkg. there are no markings on the truck, do i get it from the vin? also what is the difference between a regular grill and the sport model? one more question, why do the lift kits say not for offroad package trucks? thanks for any info
the sport model grille is painted and not chrome. if your lookin at after market grill inserts they should bolt up the same.
the "offroad" ram comes from the factory w/ 2' of lift. if you install a lift kit that says 5 " youwill only get 3 in reality. if you were to go w/ 2' coil spacers. that would give you 4 inches. which is too much w/o changing the tracbar location, shocks and should get control arms too..
the sport model paint is all one color with no chrome
the offroad package includes - high output alternator, heavy duty battery, taller front springs, blocks and helper spring in back, 4.10 gears ,17" wheels, lsd, and tow hooks.

mine is a sport model with offroad package. does you grill look like mine. all sport models came with monotone paint.grill and bumpers painted some color as truck
Sport model trucks have a "molded grill and bumper" that are the same colour as the body of the truck. Additionally, they often, though not always, have a decal or badge indicating as such. If you have a chrome bumper and chrome grill, then you don't have a sport. It was just an appearance package, nothing more. The off-road package trucks came out of the factory with a 2" lift and 33" tires (275/70R17 or something) as well as a lower gear ratio and heavy-duty off road shocks etc, etc. The off-road package was only offered in 2000 and 2001 and they all have a sticker, underneath the 4x4 sticker on the tailgate, that said "off-road". If you are adding any more suspension lift to an off-road model truck, you have to use a lift kit that provides lengthened control arms and such because it already has an additional 2 inches over stock. Adding more lift without lengthened control arms won't keep the suspension geometry within spec and you'll run into all kinds of problems. Most lift kits that are compatible with off-road model trucks have a disclaimer saying that the advertised lift (ie 5 inches) will be 2 inches less on an off-road.
Hopefully you can make some sense of that!

I have a 2001 SLT and the bumpers are painted the same color as the truck also. The factory sticker that was on the window when I bought it new says it's an SLT but it does have two SPORT badges on the cab behind the second door in the middle. I figured it was a sport but I guess it's an SLT so I don't know why they have the sport badges on it.
