well my goal was to try some of the lucas stuff and see if that worked and while i was at it i was going to check the fluid levels... but then it had to start snowing. so i was SOL on that one. sorry doing auto stuff in a place where i'm not supposed to do anything related to fluids to begin with and without any cover.... yeah didn't want to freeze in the snow.

 

well as an update i tried some of the lucas stop slip stuff and it actually did help. i didn't use the whole bottle just so that i could test it but it did make a difference. so luckily i think it just needs to be serviced. and i'm pretty sure that it was the bands slipping between first and second. the lucas stuff helped but didn't fix the problem.
