lifting a truck with shocks isnt possible, unless the shock is completely compressed and the entire length of the tube is ridicoulously long in which the shock would then have to support the weight of the truck...didnt happen, maybe you put new springs on, or spacers, but you didnt just slap some shocks on and volia, 3 inches.

Well...I remember a couple years ago another counter person at the parts store I worked at sold a guy with a 2wd Dodge a set of front shocks. The customer comes in about 3 (yes 3 days) later and starts b**tchin up a storm about how bad his ride is and how difficult the shocks went in, etc etc. Seems he had to raise his truck quite bit to install said Monroe shocks. The ride was also horrible!
After asking a few more questions, I determined that something was amiss. Checking the parts catalog (NOT THE COMPUTER) revealed that my co worker had sold the right shocks... but for a 4x4 application! Thus, as this customer(I still can't believe he installed them!) shoved themin there, he had no compression, and in fact did raise the front of the truck about 3 inches.
Of course he wanted us to give him new shocks, which I'm not sure we did. I mean, yes we sold him the wrong ones, but there was a noticable difference in height between the two part numbers. Our bad, but his bad too.
Anyway....where were we? Oh, how's your truck ride?

ORIGINAL: Aubrey

I had Trailmaster SSVs on mine and thought they were great. Pretty decent price too. I still have one from before my lift. (I don't know if I can still use it or if it's just gonna collect dust for eternity though.)
I have a different opinion of the Trailmaster's, but they were on a Ford truck. They were fine when traveling, but when moving slowly, they bounced like they were shot. Could have been the Ford suspension, they may work better on a Dodge. But when I replace mine on my Dodge, I'll probably look for a different brand.

High pressure shocks can indeed give a bit of lift over stock. I replaced the stock junk with 275psi nitrogen charged shocks on all 4 corners (some years ago) and got about a 1/2" bump. 3 inches though ... not even close.

BTW ... I replaced these with Performer IAS and I think they suck. I'm with Shott ... shoulda gotten Rancho 9000's.

just put on rough country nitro 9000's in the front. there a tad bit harder than the gabriels (stock?) that i had but handle and ride great. i have not been off road with them yet so i dont know how the inertia valve works yet but for $70 dollars delivered from www.rockymountainsusp.comi think there well worth it.
