hey guys my question is i have a 1998 2500 5.9 litre with a 5-speed trans, i was wondering what rear end gearing i most likely had, and what i would be able to change it to, im looking to lower the gearing just a bit for alittle added towing power, thanks in advance
My truck has a sticker in the glovebox with the axle ratio. There should also be a tag somewhere on the axle cover itself with the ratio. If i'm not mistaken, 2500s with a V8 came with a Dana 60 rear axle for which the factory gear ratio was either 3.54:1 or 4.10:1. Your options for new gear ratios are basically limitless with the Dana axles. If you find you're running 3.54's, a switch to 4.10's with stock tires makes for pretty good low end. Any lower and you'll be hurting your highway performance.
ok guys i took a look i do have a dana, and the ratio is a 3.55, so i assume the 4.10's are the next best option, where do i go about buying them???? i appreciate all the help guys thanks alot.
Finding them is easy on the internet .
Installing them can be tricky though if u don't have the proper tools or ifdon't feel comfortable shop around for a good shop price.
