That's a nice looking truck. It looks like it is an SLT which is nice, but I don't think it is a Sport model. I think they must have just told you that because they wanted to mislead you or they didn't know any better.

 

doesn't really look like you need a package to go off road

Sports have body colored front/rear bumpers and grill.

 

I have the Sport Package on mine, no chrome unless I put it on, which I did.

 

Was there a package in '96 with "Off Road Package" options? Things like 4WD, tranny/transfer case bash plate, limited slip, etc.?
