5.9 diesel?

Default 5.9 diesel?

hello all i have a 99 dodge ram with the 5.9 gasoline engine.. i have been told... doesnt make alot of sense.. but have been told that a person could change the engine out for the 5.9 diesel? being they are the 'same size'. anyone have any input on this.. can it be done??

You didn't say if your truck is a 1500, 2500 or 3500. Yes, you can swap the 5.9L V8 for the 5.9L I6 and if your truck is a 3/4 or 1 ton, it's a lot easier than if you have a 1/2 ton. The fact that the engines have a similar displacement is irrelevant. While this swap has been performed in the past, the diesel is MUCH heavier than the gasser and if you try to swap it into the 1500 ... you will need to perform EXTENSIVE (and expensive) modifications to your truck. You'ld be better off finding a 3/4 or 1 ton truck that already has an oil burner in it.

agreed.. the motor alone weighs around 1000~1100 lbs...

yep .. you guessed it.. its a 1500.. scratch that idea.. think ill just fix the intake gasket.. and now the water pump .. as it started makin some noise today.. keep the truck for one toy.. then find me a 2500 to toy with.. thanks
