no im not paying for the trans to be done.there is more behind the trans being done. i know the surging is from the tps but i had additional issues with my trans shifting constantly etc.

The reason I posted that the tps can be destructive to the tranny is just what you said. It causes the tranny to shift and the torque converter to lock and unlock many more times than necessary - which wears them out prematurely. I had the problem with "surging" almost from brand new and two dealers never diagnosed it properly as the tps being bad because it didn't throw a code. My tranny got rebuilt twice in 60k miles - and I have to guess the tps caused it. I found this forum soon after the 2nd rebuild and replaced the tps and have had no more issues.....

bought it from a dodge dealer and asume they did it before i bought it.
Never assume the dealers do anything.I would just change it so you know it's done.

My truck doesn't surge, but when I'm driving along it seems to shift more than 3 times (into 2nd, 3rd, and OD). It drops in RPM's a couple of extra times, I'm not exactly sure why. From a stop I accelerate and when it goes into 3rd gear it will sound like its shifting and the RPM's with drop a couple hundred twice. No abnormal noises or surging, but could this be related to the tps?

the extra shift you feel is the torque converter lockup that occurs in 3rd, and then the final shift to OD. The tc lockup will drop about 200-300 rpm, and the OD will drop a larger amount. try driving with OD off and you'll feel the difference. then when in OD and you stomp the gas it will feel like 2 downshifts. first it unlocks tc, then downshifts to 3rd.
