Default Motor build.

Hey, I've posted on here several times with engine problems. Now I gotta 'nother question. I should have the motor on a stand tomorrow. Once I disassemble it I'll know just how far I am going with this build. I know I have to plug in new cam bearings and while I'm in there, a cam.

If in the event I go crazy and so a complete rebuild; can y'all recommend some reading material for building dieseltorque out of a 5.2L? I've built horsepowermotors in the past. I'd be nice to have a 50-100lbs increase in torque over the stock build though. Any thoughts?
It'll let me keep my stock gears, oversize tires, pull, Pull, PULL!.

No matter how much torque the engine can develop you're going to need to build a stronger transmission. Are you for sure going to install a new cam? Have you looked at cutting down the intake runners, going with the 50mm modified throttle body as well and 1.7 rockers? My truck runs like a raped ape with everything except for the 1.7 rockers (future mod) but the transmission needs some attention.

Just my 2-cents

Oh, and I recommend porting out and polishing the heads and combustion chambers.

No, I'm not sure I am going with a new cam. It depends if there is any damage to the bearing surfaces, wear to the lobes and money at that time. I wish I could run a compression test on the motor to verify the rings. With my oil problems that's not an option though.

If I use a new cam, I can use a larger profile cam and skip the 1.7 rockers. Same thing right? (effectively anyways) and it'd save a couple hundred bucks. Roller lifters can be reused with a new cam right? It's not like the old flat tappets.

So if I build a torque monster, the tranny goes huh? That's comforting.

Yep. Let your machine shop know what your plans are and they can help you plan out the build. That's what my guy did. He's been in the business since the mid-1970's and steered me clear of spending too much money. I built my engine for mild torque, no boring .030 over in the cylinders, cut the intake, and installed the Fastman 50mm TB. I want some Gibson headers and then a rebuilt transmission with (possibly) Kevlar bands. My machinist told me of several guys who planned to build a screamer in the past and had the whooped puppy dog face when the engine was installed. They didn't think out the second part of the equation, which is the transmission.

Screwthe Kevlar bands, go with the Brass impregnated Carbon fiber, virtually bulletproof.http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

You should feel the snap of the tranny I had these guys build, found out all kinds hidden power afterI upgraded
