Default Mods to help a 1500 pull 14k LBS??

I'm not to sure what the tongue weight is but the GVW of what I'm towing is in the ball park of 14,000lbs. Idont see the need tospend a ton of money on a 2500 or 3500 when I can spend an extra $2000 onmy truck to get it to do whatI want. The 5.9(flowmaster,K&N) seems to pull pretty goodand with my trailor brakes I can stop alright. But I would like to havemorestability on freeway speeds, my main problem is the weight on the rearend that is keepingthe back of the truck very low and he front high so the truck will start floating on the road. Icouldnt find a good lift kit with new heavy duity springs for the rear so I was thinking of thisinexpensive air bag systemfrom summit.comfor the rearend and maybe some lower gears or just swap therearendwith a 2500 or 3500and be done with thewhole posi low gear situation. Did all 2500 2nd gen rearends come with posi? I have 3.55 gears right now that I dont think are best for towing. Any one have any experences with the airbag set up in the rear for towing? I'm hopeing if I level out the truck better I'll have better traction for my frontend on the freeway.

Swapping the rearend won't matter. You'll need helper springs or the suspension from a 2500, but the 1500 is just not made to do it. To do it right you should've bought a 2500 or 3500. If you have to get helper springs you just didn't get enough truck. There are alot of companies that make helper springs at a reasonable rate. Gears would help on the low end side of towing so that would be a good option. Don't forget bolt ons for a little extra horsepower.

Forget pulling, how are you planning to stop all of that weight? I'd go with a bigger truck that is rated to handle that kind of load rather than trying to modify what you have.

My 2500 HD V10 isnt rated for that much weight. GVWR of 19000lbs means 12k trailer, 1k pass/gear and 6k for the truck (6050lbs empty)
Get a 3500 CTD cause anything less will not cut itor be very dangerous (1500 brakes/tranny suck)

unless you got a cdl... you can forget pulling 14,000 lbs... class B 10,001 >... and my 1500 4x4 can only pull 6,800 lbs.

I thought about add a leaf springs but I couldnt imagion it keeping the truck at the correct level unless I can add a few springs on each side but I didnt think it worked that way. Will 2500 and 3500 rear leaf springs bolt in to my 1500?

I dont have aproblem brakeing, I have new brakes on the truck and trailor brakes on my dual axle toybox. If I have to make a suddon stop i usually crank up the trailor breaks a bit and I slow down very quickly.

Alls you need if ur pulling that much w8 is a good insurance plan lol jp but u could try the airbag system and add a leaf and i would imagin that would hold it up, but like others say get a abigger truck such as a 3500 deisle
