Default Hypertech or B&G Flash

I have hot rod my 99 318 4x4 and it looks good, only she dont run good. I have KB Performance pistons, Comp Cam Extreme, 1.7 roller rockers, Eddelbrock Performance Heads, MSD ignition, 166K TC. At iddle, she runs good, the minute I shift into any gear she stumbles and stalls out, it seems like she has no fuel. I believe that all the mods are toomuch for the computer. I do remember the cam instructionsrequired computer modification required. Im thinking on getting a Hypertechor a B&G 408 Flash. Please help me on making the right decission.

hypertech claims their product to be designed for stock engines. i think your cam and pistons might need different tuning. don't go hypertech w/o calling them and verifying they can properly manage your mods. i don't think they can.

Im going to call B&G Performance and give them my specs to see what they tell me. My engine seems to be starving for gas, so this is what im going to do before I spend any cash. The gas has been sitting for about a year( 87 octane). I have a new fuel pump that I bought as a spare, so Im going to drain the fuel, install the new pump and refuel with 91 octane.

If you can rev it in park ... you're not gas starved. Just puting it in gear shouldn't kill it if all you had was a fuel delivery problem.

I can rev it and it runs good in park, the minute I put it in neutral or any gear, she idles hard fluctuating stalling and she is sucking in alot of air like this" wuzzz wuzzz". In park, she doesnt make that noise. I jacked up the rear and ran it in all gears, up to 65 mph, no problem. The minute I apply the brakes, she acts up. When there is no load on the engine, its good. When I apply load to the engine, hell breaks loose. I believe that when there is a load, it need more fuel because of the cam, and the computer does not know how to handle it. Im still trouble shooting, I will keep yall inform and help anyone in the future of my experience.

How much engine vacuum are you reading? The fact that it "acts up" when you apply the (power) brakes makes me think you don't have enough vacuum with that cam and the stock computer.

A custom flash will probably be your best bet. Be sure to tell them everything you have done to the truck, as well as any future mods you plan.

I would think the B&G would be your best bet with the mods you are running. I have a hypertech and it works well for stock or near stock. Your engine is certainly not stock therefore a custom flash tailored to your modsshould give you the best results.

The B&G 408 flash is for highly modified engines with big cams and injectors. I have a big cam but stock injectors. What are the specs for the stock fuel injectors? Im going to call B&G and give them all my info and every bit would help, I left my manual at my girlfreinds house. Big mistake.
