Default RE: v10 auto vs. manual

Well were to start. I have a 96 3500 dually 4X4 that I oull a 30ft 5th wheel with. It has the 47RE trans. As far as the trans goes I have changed the fluid and adjusted the line pressure. I have no problems with it this time. As far as the V10 I've had some challenges with it. Two years ago we took a trip out west from Michigan at the end of June. Along about Murdo, South Dakota the radiator blew a core tube and I first realized the overheat problem when the engine made a severe clattering sound. The temp gauge was still reading normal. I shut the engine down and coasted into an old rest area to discover that there was no coolant in the radiator. Well, after an interesting day in Murdo home to the the best junk museum and miles to the closest anything. The radiator was replaced and we were on our way to the west. We were not even 100 miles down the road and it was overheating again. Made a pit stop to my brothers house up in the mountians a little west of Denver. Did a bunch of testing and determined the the clutch for the fan was bad. Changed the clutch and headed back east. Got in to Indiana the temp went up again. Limped it home and did some more checking and found the clutch for the fan not working. Changed the clutch again and it seamed to fix it. Took another trip to St. Louis and managed to melt a brand new plug in the #9 cylinder. Change the plug and went back to Michigan. When I got home I did a compression test, cylinder leak down and found low compression on all cylinders with the highest being 105psi and three set of cylinders pushing compression back and fourth. Continued to drive the truck another 15 months until Feburary of this year. Pulled the engine and tore it down. Found #9 cylinder piston a little melted and bad head gaskets were the cylinders were leaking between each other. The truck still pulled good even with all of the damage. So I'm going to have to say the V10 is a good engine in my personnal view.

So was it the initalloss of coolant that caused all of the engine problems?

Manual vs. Auto.

Manuals fun if you like to shift
They suck in traffic.

Autos are cool if you like getting road head.
Autos in general suck for towing ****, unless i'ts got a tow/haul mode.

I tend to think the loss of coolant caused most of the problems.
