whats is wrong with this thing
ok well my first dodge and im so tired of this thing after 3 months. i have had everyrhing i can think of fixed to no prevail. bought the truck it was running like crap so after some searching around i found out that my heads were cracked. they were replaced but still it ran like crap. so after some more snooping around the pcm was replaced. still nothing now my tranny was rebuilt and after one week it is slipping again and surging etc. truck idles like crap so i change the tps and nothing still idling weird. not as much as before but still not right. im out of options the dealer refuses to take it back and refuses to fix it any further because it is out of warranty and they think im crazy because it doesnt act up on them.i cant even pull a 1300# trailer with an 02 2500. my driver side rear wheel keeps blowingaxle seals and burning up and smoking . and i always smell oil burning on my truck but im not losing any fluids. the truck wanders all over the road and has no power. ive got his horrible bubbling noise under my dash. i need help BAD im more concerned with the driving issues than anything. please guys/gals i need help before i take this truck and drive it through the dealers showroom. sorry for bitc#ing im just so fed up i dont know what to do. thanks

Sounds to be like your truck needs the engine pulled out and gone over from top to bottom. Your idle problem could be due to a bad cap and rotor, plugs, plug wires, incorrectly positioned distributor, worn cam, dirty/old O2 sensors, sticking IAC, etc. You are trying a band-aid approach right now and it's not working.

Did you ever give it a simple tune up? Don't blame the truck for being a piece of creap just because you've replaced a bunch of the wrong stuff.
1. Axle Seals : Drain the fluid and see if theres any metal in it. Replace the seal. If it keeps going bad its either metal ripping it apart of a bad installation.
2. As for smelling oil but not loosing any fluids. If your not loosing any fluids who cares?
3. Truck wander all over. Welcome to a solid front axle vehicle. Your tie rods are all probably shot. They only last probably a 100k miles.
4. No power. I have this same problem, could be lots of things. Plenum, t-chain, ect. How many miles on it?
5. Horrible bubbling is an air pocket in the coolant. To fix it: Take the rad cap off the radiator when the truck is COOL. Turn the truck on and let it sit for a while until it warms up. Coolant might splash over but thats fine. Now rev the engine by hand from under the hood (if you don't know how hae somebody do it from inside). When you do this the coolant will drop down, fill it up as it does. Put the cap on before a ton goes back out. Fill the resovior about 1/2 way.
The best advice I can give you is to go buy a $100 set of tools and do all this your self. Its not hard and we can walk you through it. If you did everything I just told you by yourself it would probably cost $300. the dealer charges $100 an hour, and they take their time...
The heads are known to crak on these but they're still fine for driving usually, but of course the dealer will tell you they HAVE to be replaced. Same for the PCM, I will bet $100 it was fine but they probably didn't feel like troubleshooting so instead they had you buy a few hundred dollar part. They're paid on commision.
Go over a few things SIMPLE. To often people have very simple problems like the truck won't start and they think they need a new engine or something.
Give it a full tune up and clean the TB and all the sensors. Then look into more complicated things.

RE: whats is wrong with this thing
trust me sir hilton if i knew i would be having these troubles it wouldnt be in my driveway.the truck has 61,000 miles on it. it had 58,000 when i bought it i havent even put half of those miles on it the dealer has. so i highly doubt its a cam. the truck has had a full tune up and it still runs like crap. the truck isnt throwing any codes.and socha i am very mechanically inclined i have thousands of dollars worth the tools and im blaming the truck because it is the the truck. everything that has been done other than the tps has been the dealer because it was under warranty and im the one who figured out all the stuff that was wrong with it not them the big bad certified techs.and they did what most tech not all but most techs will do they ignore you because the know everything. everything i told them was wrong was wrong. as for air in the coolant ive done what you said more times than i care to express. and the wandering isnt due to thesolid axle. i had a 79 f150 that had 6 in lift with 38' mudders and that truck never wandered like this one and that truck was so messed up it wasnt funny but it was a project truck for me. and i am very **** about noises and smells coming from my truck i wont be able to leave it alone. i do not have the time or cash right now to be trying to fix this thing. i have my first kid coming and i need to sell my condo and buy the wife a new suv.buy a new house i work rediculouse hrs so i sleep during the day thats why i bought a new truck so i didnt have to deal with this. please dont take this as being a nasty post i know it seems like it but its not.

thanks redneck i never really considered it due to the fact that the dealer told me they replaced it while they were in there just to be safe.but i guess i should really check it though.i just find it strange because its doing all the same things it did before the new heads and tranny rebuild and when i got it back from the tranny rebuild it was running excellant but its back to running like crap. the tranny guy says that the tranny wasnt only rebuilt but beefed up to fix dodges weak points. that its not a mechanical issue that i have its an electrical issue making it slip and surge etc. but thanks again redneck ill have to look into it

RE: whats is wrong with this thing
what about compression test? i would do that first and see where you are at. i think it should 120 to 150 psi. someone correct me if i am wrong. they should be withen 20 or 30 psi of each other. anymore than that and it will stumble.
if that checks out ok. then i would start with the cheap parts. replace injectors, fuel filter and tune up maybe a clogged cat or bad o2 sensors. i kow you just did a tune up. so maybe no tune up.
i would also check your tranie fluid during a sunny day and see if the oil shimmers in the sun light. if you see shimmer then maybe your trannie is going out again.
