most important question is what size tires are you planning to run ?
285 - 305-315'ish (33-35) would need 4.10's.
35 and up likely need 4.56
there is a 3.90 but i wouldn't bother with it.
i don't think there is a 3.7x for 9.25

I would still say go with 4.10. I ran 4.10's with 265/75/16 for awhile, and saw very little loss in highway mpg. These trucks are so heavy, you really need 4.10's. 3.90's is about your only other option. Don't even waste your time going from the stock 3.55 to a 3.7x (if it even exists for our axles), it would be a waste of money. I think 3.90's would still be a waste of money too, but if 4.10's are too aggressive for you, that is going to be your only other option.

3.92 isnt bad, no acceleration, but LONG legs.

go to www.4wheelparts.com. i just ordered 4.10's for my 98. it was a total of $500.00 for the front and rear gears and master install kits. it also comes with a new carrier for the front to fit the 4.10's.

good luck

Or you can go with a thick gear for the front, and retain the stock carrier.
