I broke my front u joint
Not always so easy getting the hub out. I bought my truck with 102000 miles knowing it needed a front right wheel bearing/hub assy replacement. I fought with it for quite a while, broke a puller, and used the method a former mechanic told me about, screw the bolts back in a ways, put a socket on them and pound with a hammer. Still no go. Gave up and brought it to the former mechanic who is a friend, he has all the right tools and a lift, torches, pullers, etc...
He fought with it for almost a couple hours. It finally did come off, I think the most effective method was pounding with a chisel between the hub and knuckle. He said it was the hardest one he has ever done.
I would never try to do another one myself again.

Heat is what I was going to go for next, I was just going to wait for untill I can get another person to hold the torch as someone is hammering.
I tryed screwing the bolts back in and hitting them with a hammer last night with no luck at all.
I got tonight off work, so I can probably get it done tonight with no problems, and right after I get out of school I think I will just pull the other side because it should be easy since the hub was just replaced.

I tryed heat and pounding... No luck.
I made a puller for it, along with pounding... No luck...
Next I will try heat and the puller...
Here are some pictures of the puller I made.

Finaly got it...
U joints were insane... Had to use a hydralic press, one came out normally (just hard) the other one started bending the yoke before it would budge... I had 4500 lbs per square inch on it!!!!
I had to cut the u joint in half with a torch, and break apart the u joint caps and work from there... alot of work. 4 hours alone just getting the u joints out!
Well, I got the driver side all done, just stuck the axel in the passenger side first I noticed that I couldent feel any drag, like itwasent in the splines, so I took it back out and put it in now its spinning the other side backwards, like a normal dif would... BUT should it be able to do this when the truck is in 2wd and not running?
Im pooped right now, and dont have it in me to finish so im going to wait untill tomarow... Just seems weird to me that it would act liek its in 4WD...
The rear tires ARE on the ground, if that makes any difference.

Does anyone know if the Spicer 5-760x will fit on 01? Have to replace my drivers side front tomorrow. Went to NAPA yesterday and they don't stock the Spicer but I bought the equivilant suppossibly.
ive broken my drivers side axle shaft twice now.. its the dana 44.. open diffs. one time with 31"s and other time with 35"s . so they arnt impossible to break.
anyway. the only time the other tire should spin is when the cad is locked in. thats the actuator on the front axle. that would make it the other tire spin the opposite way ( with and open diff). other wise if its unlocked you should be able to spin either side and the drive shaft nor the other wheel should turn. doesnt matter if the truck is in 4wheel or not.
