Default Death Wobble

Well it seemed that I just had my first experience with the death wobble. I was towing my motorcycle down the freeway and I hit a bump and the truck started shaking violently. It stopped when I got down to about 35 mph. I took a picture of a broken piece under there I think it is the link for the stabilizer bar, could you verify this for me and would this cause the problem? It is a 4x4.

Yeah ... that's a sway bar link. Shouldn't cause DW though. I think RockAuto has some pretty cheap. If you trust eBay stuff ... I've seen them there, too. Take off both sides (and the bar) untill you get a chance to fix it.

Ever done anything with your track bar? That sway bar may have been the only thing keeping your axle centered.

This is the one I put in: http://www.dtprofab.com/dodge.htm

97RAM2500: It's the bar that's supposed to keep the front axle centered. It reaches from the right side of the front axle up to the left frame rail where it uses a weak-assed ball mount. One of the weak links on the 2nd Gen 4x4 front suspension. Once it wears out ... the axle will drift laterally forcing you to steer to correct ... Death Wobble. Never replace it with a stock unit. There are a number of aftermarket units that are 10X better.

It's probably why you broke the sway-bar link.

I don't think I will be keeping this truck too much longer, so is there a cheaper on that I can get that will at least serve it's purpose for a little while?

Look here: http://www.lukeslink.com/

You can rebuild your stock bar ... web site says $66.
