Default ram radio problem

hey all got a '98 Dodge ram 1500, just this week the radio and all interior lights on the ceiling of the truck went out. The lights are supposed to come on when the door opens and/or if the dome light **** is turned, but nothing. Completely dead. Radio too. Checked all fuses both inside the truck and under the hood. Help please! Thanks, Greg

Yea take them out and look at them close sometimes you can barely see the cracks, ive installed like 4 aftermarket head units in 2 different reams its always a fuse inside or the big fuse under the hood

Well I checked the fuses again and I found one inside the panel in the cab of the truck with a black security-type cover over it that I couldn't previously get off. I was able to get it off and sure enough it was that fuse. But every time I replace it it blows instantly. The diagram says its the I.O.D. fuse, any ideas? Maybe something else needs to be replaced at the same time this replaced? It doesn't seem like something the average do-it-yourselfer should be touching, with that cover over it and all. Thanks

Sounds like a short circuit. Which could be a real PITA! The seatbelt solenoids are off of that fuse and I had trouble with them staying picked up before, but they never blew a fuse. Maybe have a look at them. Unplug the connector from the rollover sensor under the middle seat and see if it still blows. If it does, try disconnecting things one at a time. You will probably go through alot of fuses.

Alright well thanks for all the help. I actually disconnected the bulb from the main interior light and just left the two small lights on the front of the ceiling and the radio connected and the fuse hasn't blown...........must be something with that big light in thecenter of the truck.....oh well for now its fine.

Ckeck resistance of that bulb or try another bulb. Sometime a bulb can get short circuited inside. Hope tha's it - simple solution.

I have a 98 Ram 1500 an I'm having the same problem with the radio and the interior dome light quit working now for some reason. There are no fuses under the hood, nor in the fuse box by the drivers door that I can find are bad. I have read in several forums, that the radio is on the same circuit as the running lights. But, all of my light appear to be working fine now. After having found and corrected a short in the rear tail lights where the previous owner had tapped into the rear wiring of the truck, to hook up a trailer harness, without using shrink wrapped butt connectors. But I found the short and fixed it, and everything seems to be back to normal, other than the radio and dome light... In which has not yet been determined, why...
