My point exactly. Why spend money foolishly on religious oil changes that aren't necessary. If you read the test data, oil does foul over time, but try to extrapolate data from miles driven versus the deterioration of oil or viscosity breakdown is useless because of the variety of driving conditons etc...

If you are changing your oil religiously, then you belong to a?

You are obviously a well informed individual with intellectual skills way beyond my comprehension. Let me just take a second to take my head out of my *** to think on dumb **** level.

What is the most important aspect of any motor oil in an internal combustion engine?

1) Viscosity on the molecular level. Viscosity such that theinteriors actually float within the journals.(Giving way to the importance to a clean and efficient oil pump)

2) The ability of the oil to protect the metallurgic structure of certain key engine components ( namely valvetraincomponents from undue wear caused by the big three ( heat, stress, and friction)

3) The ability to contain within itself the contaminates that varnish and gum an engine, and effectively carry them through the motors internals ( whilst maintaining proper viscosity ) and into the oil filter.

$) All of the above at the same time

yeah I hear that, I'm a big fan of fresh oil in the motor, and Fresh wax on the paint.

Anyone else use an hour meter? My '05 F-450 work truck has one in the gauge cluster (you can toggle between odomoter, trip odometer and hours). On my personal trucks I've been adding a small digital hour meter under the hood. I think the ones I use are made by Tiny Tach, their about $30 and I get mine from a local MC shop. They come in two flavors, both have a non-resetable hour meter though one model also switches over to a tachometer while the engine is running. I have that type on my quad but everything else gets the straight hour meter. Makes it easier for me to determine when the oil should be changed (I've been trying to do it around 50 hours or so). Just a thought.

Hey fellas whereas I'm new to this forum ( 1 month) I have found alot great help and pretty good friends. I've learned alot about 4 wheel drive trucks, Dodge's inparticular, but the rudeness and cursing at each other is silly. It's ok to disagree, it's your right one that I fought for on the battle field as a United States Force Recon Marine and who lost alot of buddies doing so to defend your rights. I also have my son with me when we check out this site and I don't appreciate the language. Now I'm not a saint by no means but I have been raised by a great set of uncles, aunts, grandfathers and grandmothers to when and where to use foul language. Now the intro to this particular discussion was something regarding a debates goes on, now since you so eloquently recited someone's work on the molecular structure and function of motoroil I'm pretty sure you can look up the word debate in the dictionary and comprehend it's meaning. PLease keep the foul language to a minimum or use the symbols for cursing.
Now to the subject matter at hand I personally use Royal Purple motor oil and I go 7k on it with a K&N Oil filter. I have owned race cars, luxury cars, and "regular" cars and this is my first truck and I drive 100 miles round trip to and from work 5 days a week at 70 mph all highway. In the 7 yrs I've been changing my oil in this manner using these products I've never had a problem. So to end the debate if it works for you great keep doing it the key is to get the best performance out of your engine with the greatest amount of longevity and if Amsoil works for you then go for it, if changing your oil at 3k intervals works great but remember those of us who have fought for your right to speak out and repect the rights of those I fought for who don't want to hear it spoken in that manner. My 2 Purple Hearts weren't cheap. OORAH and Semper Fi
