How often SHOULD you change your oil?
I'm seriously thinking of switching to amsoil for everything in my truck. I just had the transmission changed so I think I'll wait on that. I had to put a new rearend in last year and I want to run some good oil in there. I defenitely don't want to go through that again
Do not ever use anything in your transmission excet mopar 3 or 4, or an equivelant that says it is designed specifically for Chrysler transmissions.
Will any shop put amsoil in if you bring the oil in yourself. I want to get the filter replaced also.
I put a new rearend in last fall so i want to replace it. I wanted to putsome miles onto break itin. I want the best oil I can get in there. I've never replaced it though. Does anyone know how difficult it is?

When I had my gears done, I talked to the guy about putting either Amsoil or Royal Purple through the whole drive train. He told me that diff's and xfer case would be fine, but if you use anything other than atf 3 or 4 in the trannythat there is an additive that you have to put in it or it will cut the life of your transmission. I almost did it, but then figured that, since I normally would be changing the stuff myself, I would not want to mess with some additive and getting the proper mixture. I confirmed the whole additive thing with the shop that put my stall in, and my buddy who owns/operates a garage near my house (my inspection guy if you will
).Even though these two guys own and operate tranny shops, andoneowns a general repair garagethey still may not know wtf they are talking about. I don't know. If amsoil says it's alright, then try it. You may want to research it past what the people selling the stuff say though.

Good point. I guess if you change your tranny oil regularly you should'nt have any problems. Amsoils' site says it's good for atf3 af4 mercon? dextron. I'm actually a little more leary now. If you're not suppose to mix those fluids than why is the Amsoil good for all of them.
0n my 96 trans dip stick says dextron III .... i wouldnt worry about using it .... the only time you would add a additive is in the rear diff with a LSD .... Slip-Lock⢠Differential Additive ...like mopowar says "research it" google the hell out of it...lol...... I had Amsoil in my trans for a year so far so good..... If you read bobistheoilguy he has a intresting view on using additives..... GOOD LUCK with your search !!!
