Mopar tow hooks on a 01 sport
I've been looking around for front tow/recovery hooks for my 01 sport, but they seem to be pretty hard to find. In addition, it looks like making them work with my bumper will be a pain in the a$$.Any suggestions where I can get them and how I can make them work on my truck. I know one annoying thing is when they are too low, so they are always in the mud or snow when you get stuck, but that's not as annoying as not having them in the first place! What's up with that not putting those stock on a 4X4 full size truck, how am I supposed to get er done? I'm thinking about just making my own out of some 1/2" plate.
I feel your pain I also have a 01 sport. I dont know dodges thnking on this one but oh well. If you are going to put tow hooks on your going to have to notch the bumper for them. I read on here there are some shevy ones that will work but not sure of the year. If you do a search im sure there is a bunch of threads on this subject. I thought about getting a reciever hitch for the front and putting a d-ring in it. I never got around to looking for one though. I think im gonna just say screw it and get a beefier bumper with d-rings already on it.
'godramit' was making a duplicate of the dodge bracket for about $50, but as of a couple of months ago, he had stopped making them. you might try finding him on either here or pavement. i bought a set of mopar hooks used on ebay for $70. you can buy them new also on ebay for about $115-120. if you make something be sure and bolt it to both the frame and crossmember, and not just the crossmember. its not strong enough. i don't have a sport and also don't have the valence thing, so mine fit w/o cutting or notching. i think all the plastic bumper covers have a place already marked that you'll just need to cut out. there is a tech article about it on pavement.
The only ones i've seen on ebay are for 2002 and above. I can get a chunk of plate for like 20 or just find
some laying around at work and torch them out and grind them smooth, drill a couple of holes and be done. I think I'll just do loops and use shackels since that's much stronger than the 5500 lb mopar hooks. Maybe I'll just do a batch of them and sell them on ebay or something.

yes, you could make some with 3/16 plate. make a cardboard template, then transfer it to the steel.
bend or weld it into a 90* shape that wraps around the frame and bolt/weld to the crossmember. attach hooks or shackles.

Dang, I didn't see that one, thanks. That's still a lot of cheese for like $2 worth of metal.
