Default How far is to far??????

I want to do some upgrades mostly for towing. Right now I have everything stock. Iwas going to change my gears to 4:10 but I guess I'm lucky my gears are 3:96 with rear Anti-Slip and from what I've heard there isn't much good going up one size. I've been looking at doing the intake mod and then throwing on a fastman TB. I only have three questions. First if I do the intake mod and then throw on a fastman willthise it so I have to run higher octane? Also will I notice a differnce with the stock exhaust? Third should I do something else first?

thanks

i would upgrade to the new intake and get a k & n or try the round air filter mod either one will give you more power and a little better mpg, then i would get headers a hi-flo cat and a decent exhaust set-up that meets your needs/wants, put a 180 thermostat in the truck, and after all that do the hypertech or superchips...that should give you a nice bump in power

3.96 to 4.10 will be almost completely unnoticable 3.55 to 4.10 would. stick with the 396 its a good gear.

There is no need to run higher octane if all you do is an intake and a fastman. You will want to free up the exhaust some too because the more air you pull in, the more you need to pump out. You wouldn't need an entire cat-back, you could just replace you muffler in-line with a free flowing muffler. That gear you have should be decent for the tires you run, so I wouldn't waste the money going up to 4.10 unless you plan to go bigger with the tire, then you might be considering 4.56 anyway.

Well thats good I wanted to add more power but I don't want ot pay for higher octane. I see you have the RR 1.7 are those worth it? How do they figure in with gas?

First,
I wouldencourage you to consider these questions:
How much weight will you be towing?
If you don't want to pay for hi octane gas do you care about gas mileage?
Is the weight small enough to stay in overdrive to save gas?
Is the weight alot that you will be towing in 3rd gear?
What rpm is your engine turning at 65mph in 3rd gear?
What rpm is your engine turning at 65mph inoverdrive?
Will you be going up long hills with big elevation change?
What will the difference in gas mileage be for driving in 3rd gear vs. OD?

It is a very good mod in my opinion. Didn't loss anything noticable in MPG with the mods I have, and you should still be able to run the same octane.

You are running the same octane with a flashed pcm? I thougt that if you did that then you pretty much have to run 97.

No, I am running 91. What I meant was, I saw no mpg difference with the 1.7's I did, and that you should be able to run 1.7's without changing your octane. Sorry for the confusion.

i guess you should really start off and figure how much do you wanna spend?
next figure out which mods will benefit you the most, then purchase and install

now the mods i listed earlier on here is ones i would do again and i would get the 1.7 HS and when i did that i would put in a new double roller timing chain and a new cam
you can get alot of these parts that are listed here for bewtween 1,000-1,500 and if you do all the install your self you will save big time...but ask yourself how much do you wanna spend and how wild of a ride do you want
