Default 1500 Brake Help - URGENT Update 11/08

OK, in another thread I posted how the liners of my shoes came off and screwed up my driver's rear assy. I replaced the brakes once before (granted, the Haynes is frustrating with the pics of the mechanics hands rather than the parts) and I discovered the driver's side adjuster broke.

So, I am planning to get the left side adjuster kit from O'Reilly Auto Parts tomorrow.

However, I am thoroughly confused. According to the manual, there is a pin and a C-clip that holds the parking brake bracket to the secondary shoe, yet mine doesn't have that on either side. I'm thinking someone screwed this up before I bought the truck and need to know if this is the case. If it is, then how does the secondary shoe stay in place, as there is no place for a pin to hold the shoe should the C-clip & pin combination be proper?

Here is a pic of how I think it's supposed to be assembled.

The pin and c-clip have nothing to do with how the shoe is held on. You need both shoes held on with a longer pin, spring and the spring holder cup like you have it on the right side of your picture.

But is the brake adjuster on the 1997 held with a pin and C-Clip or not?

No, I don't think it is.

Actually the E brake strut fits into a groove that is sorta shaped like a V. And it needs to go on behind the shoe and connect with that flat bar that is just under the WC.

And btw, make sure the shoe with less lining is on the forward facing side. And in your 2nd pic you can see the sorta V shaped notch directly across from the wc piston. That is where the top of the e brake strut goes into. And one more thing, is the black bar partially under the jack stand the flat bar I was talking about, or is that a tool?

That's the bar that goes between the shoes. Mine isn't straight as one end has a 90º curve.

OK! I'm going by memory and a FSM at this point. And the Haynes and FSM suck just as bad as far as pics go. However the FSM says if the shoes are to be replaced to remove the E or U clip holding the parking brake lever to the secondary shoe must be removed. I know you want to get this done now, but if you wait until tomorrow morning, I am adjusting my rear brakes and have to remove the drums to do it,as I have no adjuster holes in my back plates to do so.I still don't believe there is a pin and clip of any sort. But I'll check.
