Default Which wheel cylinder?

I searched and it just confused me worse, so here is my question. Very simple, I am going to upgrade the rear wheel cylinders on my 1999 4x4 1500 5.9 Ram. I am going to Autozone to get them. I need to know what to ask for. Thanks

I think, (read: asking others for verification.) that you would ask for 1999 chevrolet 3500 rear wheel cylinders. thats what I did but mine is a 97 so I asked for 97 chev 3500. great upgrade. follow it up with some dodge 2500 calipers and pads, russell steel braided brake lines and your all set. ( all direct bolt on)

if you want to get more confused (or unconfused) look into the details of bore size on various years.
a dodge 2500 cyl is bigger than the 1500
and the mid-90's chev 3500 is the biggest of all.
i think rockauto has the size specs.

check your fits carefully. squirrels screwed up his brake drum doing that on an 01. he realized too late that it didn't fit right. i THINK 94-99 is ok, but 00-01 might not be.

here you go.... from Autozone's web site. note that mid-90's chev 3500 and 99 dodge 3500 use the same 1-1/16 part number.

95 Chev 3500
Part Number: 33709
Application: With single rear wheels
Fits either side 1 1/16" diameter

Part Number: 33708
Application: With dual rear wheels
Fits either side 1 3/16" diameter

1999 Dodge 1500
Part Number: 30169
Fits either side 15/16" diameter

1999 Dodge 3500
Part Number: 33709
Fits either side 1 1/16" diameter

2001 Dodge 1500/2500/3500 (has separate left/right for line attachment angle)
Part Number: 33725
Driver side 1" diameter

Part Number: 33726
Passenger side 1" diameter

So, the size difference won't matter?

Of course it will. C'mon. Everyone knows size does indeed matter.

The larger wheel cylinders will exert more force on the brake pads, for any given amount of pedal pressure.

Would a cylinder from a 99 Ram 2500 be an upgrade, or do I have to get Ram 3500 to notice better braking?

go with the 3500.
compare old vs new carefully and check your fits.

Ok, this may sound stupid. What size does it need to be? I see that stock is 15/16 diameter. All of the others are bigger, right? So how do they fit?
