Default Injectors that work with our trucks

I am making a thread about all the injectors that can be used in our trucks. I am not endorsing five0motorsports, but they have the most information, and the injectors they sold me have never failed. But there is useful info here.

NOTE: SOME of these injectors are specifically made for our trucks. Some of them will fit, but are not specifically made for the trucks. Before purchasing any of these make sure you ask the dealer, or a reputable/professional source.
FOR 5.2s it is NOT recommended to run 24# injectors. The GEN III yellow injectors are recommended for them, and 2000-03 5.2s can run the 22 lb/hr Bosch EV2E's (EV6 connectors).

1. Here are the GEN III yellow tops that are used in the video that AIMFORSQUIRRELS posted in the spark plug thread

Disc design.
19lb/hr 1993-1994 5.2/5.9
PN Bosch 0280155710-F6VE
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=108

2. Here are the GEN III 4 hole disc design EV6 injectors

4 hole disc design
22 lb/hr @ 43.5 PSI, 2000-03, 5.2/5.9
PN Bosch XF2E
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=113

3. Here are the stock red EV6 injectors for 2000-03 Dodge Ram 5.2/5.9

Single hole Design Stock Replacement
22 lb/hr
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...s/?itemid=1186

HERE IS WHERE THINGS GET HAIRY!!! THere are THREE different blue top injectors that are sold at Five0. I will walk you through them:
Bosch and Siemens stock replacements:

1. Bosch Design III Blue top STOCK REPLACEMENT

Stock Replacement blue top 1996-1999 5.2/5.9
Does not list flow rate
NOTE INJECTOR TIP!!! IT IS BLACK
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=110
PN Bosch 53030778

2. Siemens Blue top with same PN as Bosch

Stock Replacement 1996-1998 5.2/5.9
23 lb/hr @ 43.5 PSI
NOTE: LOOKS THE EXACT SAME AS THE BOSCH
PN: Siemens 53030778 (exact PN as Bosch)

IT GETS BETTER:
Here are the REAL Bosch Ford Motorsport blue top 4 hole injectors that look the exact same except the tips are not black, they are orange. Also, there is more of the top that is blue. Number 1 is the discontinued metal body, and number 2 is the new composite body

1. These are the OLD style 4 hole Bosch 280 150 947 injectors NOTE THE COLOR OF THE TIP!!!

Will fit any year, you just need EV1 connectors
24 lb/hr @ 43.5 PSI (25.5 @ 49 PSI)
These are discontinued and the below injectors are the ones you will get.
http://fuelinjectorconnection.com/sh...od&productId=4

3. These are the NEW style complete composite Disc injectors that replace the above injectors

Can be used with any year, you just need EV1 connectors for 2000-03
24 lb/hr @43.5
PN: Bosch 0280155715
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=144

SO, I hope thios helps clear up the whole "blue top" dillemma. Just because you want to buy the blue top injectors, does not mean you are getting "THE" blue top Ford Racing injectors. YOu might be getting the OEM bosch/siemens injectors

ALso, you have a plethora of injectors to choose from.

I will add these injectors. Some people have said that the 4.7 injectors are better injectors.

4.7 Injectors:

1. Stock OEM 4.7 injectors EV6 single hole

EV6 connections
19 lb/hr
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=114

2. Stage 1 upgrade 4 hole injectors for 4.7 Bosch GREY TOP (Formerly Bosch yellow top mustang injectors)

19 lb/hr and can go into the 3.9/5.2/5.9
EV1 connections
http://www.fiveomotorsport.com/fuel-...rs/?itemid=107

So, you guys can look over these and see what you want. You have basically 3 different flow rates (@43.5 psi) of 19, 22 and 24 lb/hr. Most are only 305 for a set of 8, but I think the "Real" blue tops and their replacements are 339. THe link is there for you to see the pricing.

Hope that this helps answer some questions.

What about those of us that have the OBD1? Do all the improved injector possibilities require a reflashed computer? Is there some particular injectr or group of injectors that would improve things without the need for a reflash?

I ran the Bosch 24s on my 1996 5.2 and had no problems. But it is not recommended. THe best thing to do is find some injectors that are a 4 hole disc upgrade to the injectors that you have. The Bosch yellow composites are a good upgrade. They have very good atomization. If you want to go a bit larger, get the 22 lb/hr Bosch XF2E's and find 8 EV6 connectors.

24# injectors are recommended for 5.9, not 5.2.

Here is the youtube video of the yellow tops and maybe some more. I have to check, but this video made me want to check:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emnax2J4FX4

NOTE: this video shows the flow of the Bosch 24# blue top injectors (with the orange tip, first on left) and the yellow composite Gen III Bosch 19LB injectors (3rd from right) AS WELL AS the Bosch Yellow Top injectors (second from right) that are the GREY TOP injectors listed in my thread. The yellow top injectors were replaced with the grey top injectors. Confusing HUH! Just so you can get a feel for what the actual flow rates are and how the spray pattern is.

What is the PSI rating for our stock injectors on the 5.2/5.9L engines? What is the max PSI injector the stock system can be upgraded to without the need for a reflash or any external reprogramming?

Excellent thread topic!

I don't know. I would guess 58 PSI since our trucks run at 50. ANd I am not talking about reflash, i am talking about them functioning properly.

Now, if you are talking FLOW RATE, (lb/hr):
I would not go over 24 lb/hr on a 5.9 NA engine that is driven daily. 22lb max on a 5.2, but the 19lb/hr injectors would be just fine.

If you are looking to upgrade, I would just make sure that you are getting a 4 hole disc design because that is better than the 1 hole design that comes stock. Atomization is more important than flow rate for stock/lightly modified engines (CM, correct me if I am wrong)

Hemifever told me that reflashing was not necessary for 24@s on my 5.9. However, he could probably squeeze some HP with a custom tune if I got a wideband O2 sensor and sent him the AF ratio at WOT.

I am going to see if Bruce form Five0Motorsports would not mind making a youtube video of about 6 of these injectors on a flow bench and a flow tube to see which ones look best.

I want to see the first three and the last three (4.7 injectors and the new Bosch 24 Composites)

Manufacturers rate their injectors at different pressures, and, as you noticed from the video, higher pressure means higher flow, for the same time. Knowing what pressure the injector is rated at is important to know, but, not all manufacturers publish what pressure they use. (they may have gotten better at this of late, I haven't looked into it too closely. Just going on past experience.)

You can go to larger injectors on your truck without too much trouble. Higher flow injectors will just run a tad richer until the engine goes into closed loop. Once in closed loop, the computer will use fuel trim to compensate. As long as it can..... If you go TOO large, even the shortest pulse the PCM can generate will still leave you rich at idle, going to small, and you start getting to 100% duty cycle at higher RPM. (and once there, higher RPM will be progressively leaner, and get into spark knock territory... bad, bad, bad.) Neither situation is good.

This is an excellent article, Thank You CPT, for drawing it all together.
