blackout lights?
I am trying to blackout my tail lights and headlights...but I am wanting to do it myself....had anyone ever tried doing this? and has it been successful...I have heard that they sell a paint that still shows light through it for this....if anyone has done it, please let me know....I am trying to doo it myself to save some money on replacing all the lights
It's not that hard. The paint is called VHT Nightshade and can be found at any auto parts store. Your taillights are easy, take them off the truck and spray them. ( I have noticed that sanding them for better adhesion only reduces light output) I usually do two coats and then clear coat them. You can go three coats but it will be pretty dark.
I am not too sure about painting over the headlights. I have noticed that every time I try this the lights come out pink-ish and look bad. (because the lens is clear. not red like the tails) Maybe somebody else can chime in about the head lights. If you have any questions, fire away or shoot me a PM.

taillights are easy. What Nick said and also search for Night Shade on the forum, tons of posts and there are some how-to's as well. I cheated and bought some already done by someone else. That way I have the stockers to put back on when I go for my annual inspection.
has anyone ever used the DupliColor lens tint instead of the VHT NiteShade? No auto stores around here have the VHT because it is on back order from the manufacturer supposedly, but they all have an abundance of the DupliColor...
the reviews on the duplicolor lens tint are all over the place, some like it because it has a glossy finish by itself (you need to clearcoat nightshade). I do know the duplicolor chrome black-out coating is pure junk.

You have to be careful with it. It is thin like water and will run VERY easy. If done right I think it comes out better than VHT. IMO

thanks...I think I'm gonna try and find the VHT...if it takes to long I'll probably get impatient and buy the DupliColor to try though...I'm currently trying to get my grill to look nice with the gutter guard...thanks again for the info!!

All that these lens tints are, is clear coat, black paint, and adhesion promoter.
When I did my tails, I didnt use a clear. Instead I ran 3 verrrrrry thin coats of niteshade. sprayed from around a foot and a half away. Mine are still nice and glossy. but they get polished with the truck.
