Default Dash noise problems

2006 Dodge Dakota (75,000 mi)- Two intermittent problems:

1. When I change selector from floor to dash (actually any change), a loud clicking sound starts from the middle of the dash, and may or maynot stop after a while.

2. Fan speed varies although the speed control has not been touched.

Any ideas would be appreciated, 'cause I love my truck except for this, thanks

Sounds like a servo is going out on the vent doors. If not the servo, then the small pinion or gear teeth attached to the door (assuming that's how dodge did it.) It's probably a cheap fix but a PITA because you will probably have to tear your dash apart. I myself haven't done anything to my dash yet, but you might be able to just remove a cover from the under the dash to access the doors.

As for the fan speed, that's tricky. The two issues may be related. Might not get enough power for the servo to work properly with the feed to the system fluctuating.

BTW, Welcome to the forums!

Mine just makes a small buzz sound that I usually don't even notice if the radio is on or there's road noise. That lasts maybe a couple seconds before the air switches. Then there's a tiny 'door slam' sound and its done. Less than 5 seconds start to finish. Guess I'm a lucky one.

Hmmm.... I thought it was normal seeing as how the windows take that long to go up as well. HAHA

Par for the course with my experiences as well. Windows and vents. LOL Been like that since about 6 months after I bought it and I'm right at 3 years of ownership. All is well so far. The best fix for our trucks is this lol

same exact way for mine. I had no idea these trucks used electrical servos vs the vacuum motors found on every other car I've owned. I heard it one day and was like wtf is that noise...lol
