When I bought my 2010 at the beginning of this month, the salesman managed to "find" a 2nd key for me and get it programmed, no additional charge. One of the few good things I can say about my experience there.
Also by "Find" you mean the dealer always had lol.
I have actually never seen a dealer sell a car without 2 or more keys.
I bought my truck used (private sale) and it had the factory 2, Then I made 2 more up for $25. One of them broke, Never try to force a frozen lock! I broke the Rubber part off, Key still works its now my wallet spare lol

The guy who bought my parents 2000 Dakota, got like 6 or 7 Keys haha
My work gets 4 Keys from the dealer now, instead of 2.

Both my 2001 Ram and my wife's 2006 Durango only came with one key. The Ram was cheap, no chipped keys. Just a few minutes at Ace Hardware. The wife's 2006 Durango cost about $120 for a new key and programming, as you can't program additional keys yourself unless you have at least two keys already. And that was at "dealer cost", yeah right. They claimed that normally it would cost $160.

Its very possible they always had the key, and were going to keep the second one (reprogram it for a different vehicle later maybe). It wasn't there at first.

Is that to fund the "free" insurance? Beats me. I agree the insurance industry in the U.S. need some sort of control. My part of my family insurance for a family of 4 is right around $400 a month. My company pays another $800 on my behalf. So it costs $1200 a month for my health insurance. On top of that, there is a $200 out of pocket deductible for emergency room visits, $100 generic prescription drug co-pay, $35 copay for doctor, dentist or eye doctor visits BUT ....thanks to our president, I can now get one free physical a year, so that saves me $25....lol...
If you are healthy all your life, it is a financial loss to have our system (or buy insurance). But we don't get a financially catastrophic illness. Some really expensive, unproven techniques and drugs are not covered by some provincial plans, but you never get "dropped" by the provincial health plans or left with a bill that is 10s of thousands of dollars.

Things are more expensive in this country because it is sooooo big and nobody lives here! Fly over this country in the dark and you see just how much space there is between lights on the ground! We have less than 35 million people in the second biggest country on the planet! Things just cost more because of that, then you add our higher taxes - because we look after each other - and the price does go up!

I know there is a different philosophy between the US and Canada, but I'm happy to pay my higher taxes for the kind of country we have and you guys seem to be happy with the lower taxes and the kind of country you have. I'm fine with that, and I hope you are too.

OH, and you can keep your Bud! I pay more for my beer because I like the microbrew stuff - don't drink anything brewed in something larger than your living room!

Varnerhba, you say that because they pay a lot for their tools and knowledge, that their fees are justified. So why do I have a shop fee when I go in for my "complimentary" oil change and inspection, when a flat rate guy that only uses a socket and ratchet changes my oil? (On the caliber of course...)

That argument doesn't make any sense. I have expensive tools in my garage, and they don't help me change oil any faster than an auto zone set...

Now, if they just said, its because our techs are more knowledgeable than the jiffy lube guy, I would agree... I wouldn't take them up on the complimentary service either.

i wasnt arguing with you about the fact that they got you on that, thats a poor service writer for you, and if i were you i would demand my 14.50 back, i think by law over in ca we cannot charge for brake cleaner on a work order to "clean up" or parts wash anything like that. i have NEVER chargerd a customer for brake cleaner or parts wash, just send it to the detail rack and have them wash the undercarrage. they got degreaser and a pressure washer, why did they even use parts wash? if u wanted that you could of brang your car to pep boys. rip them a new ******** i would.

i just want it to be known not every dealer is a rip off, i worked for a 5 star dealer and we ALWAYS provided great service, no BS like that crap no matter how much of a mess we have NEVER charged for brake cleaner or parts wash, that is unheard of.

I bought my truck through the local Ford Store used and I had I known there was only one key I would have insisted on a 2nd key before I signed all the paperwork. Of course they don't hand you the key(s) until you are walking out to the truck. But it was too late once I drove it off the lot. When I called sales guy the next day to see if he could hook me up with another key he told me I would have to go to Dodge and get one from them. He said if it had been a Ford he could have hooked me up no problem.
