Shop Expenses?
Ok this my be silly but I had to vent.
Last Friday I dropped my truck off at the dealership to have a 2nd key programed and cut. So while the truck is there, the dealership preforms a multi-point inspection (I asked the service rep why and he said they do it for every vehicle that comes into the service dept. OK.)
So they program and cut my key, no problem. Then the service rep says they found the following problems and recommend the following service:
1. Replace Blown Out Shift Shaft seal on Transmission
2. Trans Filter Service to Reseal Leaking Pan
3. Replace Leaking Trans Output Seal
4. Replace Leaking Rack and Pinion Assembly
5. Replace Worn Front U Joint
6. Replace Leaking Rear Pinion Seal
So I come to pick the truck up and take a look at what the work entails and I explain that the service should be covered under my extended warranty. I asked what day I can bring the truck back to get the repairs and the rep tells me Tuesday and he will call the warranty company and get the pre-approval for the work.
So the work gets done and my deductible is $100.00 so the service rep tells me the total cost is $114.50. I ask him what the $14.50 cost is for and he tells me “Shop Expenses” So I asked what are Shop Expenses? The rep tells me the warranty repair doesn’t cover shop expenses and this is for the Brake Dust cleaner to clean up the transmission and pinion oil??
Oh well one less 12 pack I guess.

Yeah, I love the "shop clean-up" expenses .... what are they going to put on there next, "utility charges" because of the electricity they used with power tools..
I see why they do it, but I don't think it's fair. But figure they have 100 vehicals per day, 14.50 per vehical, that's $1,450 off of their expense sheet for the day.

They may add a "Air Surcharge", Along with your "Utility Fee" for those pesky Air Tools haha.
$14.50 charge seems stupid. FedEx is trying to charge me $15, for a customs advancement fee on my headlights (It didnt even have any, Not that I paid), then left it on my doorstep without a signature, and I got them 3 months ago.
Hospitals are the same way, got charged $4.50 for a single dose of ibuprofen when I was there last year. I'll just suffer at home next time... it's so much cheaper. A 1.5oz tube of ointment cost 15.50 and when I went to pick up the same stuff (brand and everything) at the pharmacy, it was 9.99 for a 24oz tub lol.

Brake cleaner is $5-6 a can and even in bulk for the dealers its about $4-5..now obviously if you go in for an oil change if the technician knows what he's doing no cleanup sprays should be used. Maybe a rag but that is what .05 cents? Idk it's an iffy topic..sometimes sprays and lubricants are heavily used on certain jobs though. I had an A6 with a blown crankshaft seal one time and really did use 4 cans of brake cleaner to clean up the entire front end ($20) It made a mess haha but on something like warranty work, only the deductible should be paid. It all depends on the shop, company, etc.

I am "over that age" so had to get my ********* ultra-sounded. Again, 1 week after my physical I walked in (this was not an OH-MY-GOD-WHATS-THAT, but a we-should-check-this-out) had the scan, walked out - no money out of my pocket.
(that should stir up some discussion)
