You guys can find the Superchips even cheaper right here in the DF classifieds, as well as other Dodge forums. They seem to be selling for $200 - $250 shipped, and I've seen a lot of them for sale, usually from guys who have sold their Rams. Just make sure that there is a picture of it showing 'Returned To Stock'. (Like this)

There is one for sale right now at DT for $210 shipped.

Alright guys, I'm like this close to convincing my wife to let me start upgrading to improve MPG. The only problem she has is she doesn't think it will really improve it that much. Is there any website or anything to show what the intake, superchip, and true duals will add mpg wise. (HP and TQ increase I would like to see.) Also anything else that will increase mpg would be great too. I was also wanting to know, right now I use regular fuel would using premium (whatever the middle grade is) be ok in my 05 Dakota 4.7 V8.

Using premium or midgrade fuel would be ok, but purely a waste of your money.

Do some searching on your own for this information. I'm sure there are plenty. Do some searching on this forum as well. It's not going to be earth shattering though. Maybe 2-4 mpg tops, depending on your driving habits. Mine had all those mods and my mileage really did not change that much, but it was a h3ll of s lot more fun to drive!! These are big, heavy trucks not built for mileage.

That's why I'm trying to convince her. But, in all seriousness, it would be more of a waste of money and time than help.

If your referring to the above mentioned mods as gas mileage improvements, then, yes, I would agree because the pay back would take years, if at all. BUT, if you are into modding for fun, making the truck run better, sound better, look better, etc, then it is not so much a waste. I had so much fun modding my truck. Learned a bunch of stuff, made my truck quicker, look better and sound simple awesome. It was not so much about mileage for me. It was the fun factor. Gas mileage was not a primary concern for me when I bought it. If it had been, I would have gotten a small truck with a 4 banger in it or something like that.

I have the 3.7 in my dakota. Does superchips make a chip for that? I cant seem to find one? I also have the 6 spd manual if that has anything to do with what chips I could install?

Also, I have thought about maybe doing a motor swap from the 3.7 to the 4.7 or even the 5.7 Hemi. Would I have to do a transmission swap also? What else would I need to do? or would it just be cheaper and easier to sell my dakota and get something more powerful?

Another option that I have considered is to drop a 4bt cummins or even the 5.9L in if it would fit. I know this would be an extrememly expensive swap but im guessing the power and fuel economy and fun factor might be worth it?

Don't swap it out for a 5.9L V8 unless you are building it from the ground up. A stock 5.9L V8 has more than a few issues. Not a bad engine if built/maintained right, but did have more common issues than the 4.7 and 5.7 HEMI.

Swapping anything other than a 4.7 (which would require swapping transmissions as well) is a MAJOR undertaking. There is one guy on here who swapped in a diesel. Basically rebuilt the whole truck. IMO, it would be easier to sell the Dak and get something with a bigger engine.

Hypertech makes a tuner for the 3.7. Supposed to net 25 additional horses. Superchips is for the V8 only.

Don't do that! In-tank, electric fuel pumps use fuel to keep them cool. Running your truck out of fuel will kill that expensive fuel pump faster than anything!

Plus it's really a pain in the axx to change out a fuel pump!
