Default 4.7

Heres a thought, has anyone put a 2010/2011 4.7 {302hp} in our 2005 Dakota's {225hp} sure would improve our trucks performance.

I'd imagine after buying all the parts needed, you'd might as well trade in your '05-'07 4.7 L Dakota for a '08-'11 4.7 L Dakota.

I don't recall anyone dropping in the newer 4.7 into an 05-07 Dakota.

Well the throttle body adapter is already out there, by airram.com. you need that because the only way to mmake the swap work with the original pcm is to adapt a cable operarated throttle body.

The dual spark configuration should work out without any modification, mine does. It doesn't do wasted spark, just fires both at the same time instead. I don't think you would need any customization at all after that.

Possible differences could be the angle of the exhaust manifolds as they meet the downpipes. And various sensors on the motor might need to be swapped for the 07 and older type, but all should thread in.

Also, custom tuning will be a must to take advantage of the extra power, which means an SCT tuner and tuning by hemifever. Which excludes 07 model year pcms

If you had an 07, or a 3.7l engine to begin with, you would have to change pcm to a 05, 06 v8 pcm to stsrt with.

So, in short. If someone came across an 08+ engine for a really good price, didn't mind spending a bit more for additional parts (in the range of another $1000) its a highly plausible swap idea.

But, not to shoot it down or anything, but it may be easier to trade it in for an 08+ truck, but you end up with a drive by wire throttle at that point.

Also, while you get more power with an 08 motor, you are basically taking an engine that has very little aftermarket support, and putting in a motor that has zero aftermarket support.

I agree with that statement. I'm pretty sure mine does, because I can hold lower rpms for longer without wailing on it (relatively) when going up hills and such. Less downshifts overall thanks to the swap, getting better hand calculated averages even with all the hotrodding I do with the extra power... feels so good.

well I don't think you would need any "after market" support as you would have a 300+ hp motor in a fairly light truck and that would do me just fine. I know some would want more hp.
