I'm 2wd, like you. So no oil pan issues I'm assuming. By the way, I have 3.55 gears and an open dif..should I do 3.92 and a lsd beforehand? I would like to have tires some of the time.

That's what I did.. I also had 3.55s and an open diff, I got an Auburn Performance diff but I kept the 3.55s for a while and then went to 4.10s after that. I never had the chance to really open it up with the 4.10s, life changed so fast in a short time that my truck was the last thing I was thinking about. hah, and now it's broke.

Well I might have to suffer the open diff for a little while. All I need now is for my parents to let me take out a loan and finding a place to store the donor truck.... In your opinion, was the swap really worth it?

Sorta.. I've gotten in more trouble this way lol. But yes, it was... From 18 second 1/4 miles to low 15s (at 4500ft) and a 0-60 time of 7 down from 11, I'd say its worth it. But I did a cam too, and with all the other bolt-ons it dynos 40hp higher than a stock hemi at the wheels. I'm looking forward to having it repaired and with new tires, maybe some slicks to help kill the traction issues. But I like to take mine to the track, around town its nice to have a much more "spirited" attitude from the truck, something that was missing with the 4.7.

But I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Nothing beats the sound of the 4.7, the 5.7 can sound nice, but the 4.7 was magic lol. The trade-off was worth it though.

"was it really worth it?"

depends on what you are looking for, right? its not like the truck is going to be able to do more work and pay for the swap. the stock 4.7 is more than adequate for this truck, but if your the kind of person that craves impractical amounts of power, and complicated ways to get it, then this swap is for you. if you just want to go fast, buy a car; even cheap ones are faster than this truck. I plan to perform this mod and my eyes are wide open about it--I'm different--I want a truck that is a bit of a sleeper, but still very functional and dependable. Is it worth 3-5k and a lot of hassle to add 30% more power to your truck? you make the call. For me it is worth it, even though it isn't, know what I mean?

I absolutely adore the sound of my 4.7 above 3k. Though I love how the hemis rumble and crackle too. A lot has to fall into place for this to happen. If I follow through with this I'm sure the forum will know. Do you think I could pick your brain some more next month or in June? Right now I have to get loan and find a decent 05 ram. If anyone sees any that I could drive or even pick up for a good deal, that would be great if y'all could let me know.

@Rookie, that's the boat I'm in. I know it's really not practical but it's something I want to do. I plan on keeping the truck for a while

I hope to have a long travel, hemi dakota, in a couple years. Patience is key. I am tempted to yank the motor and sell it to get things going!

Yea I'll be around. Out of curiosity, what region of the country are you in?

For the record, I'm faster than newer GTIs, Infiniti G35x (all wheel drive), and stock WRXs. My sights are set on the STis, evos, g35s, and 370zs though. When I can beat a supped up STi I'll be happy lol.

for the record, I stand corrected. that is fast. beating cars at the strip with a truck must b fun. the awd cars must laugh their way home in the snow, though! I am in wv so 4wd is necessary.
