Default 3Gen Dakota Shocks

OK, guys & gals, the OEM shocks on my '05 Dakota are mush. Whomakes decent aftermarket shocks for our 3rd gen rides? My local off road shop tells me there are none available at this time. What's the scoop?

That's the sad story. No shock upgrade available till later this year. If you absolutely, positively need a shock replacement you are stuck with oems'. Another example of how Dakota owners are regarded as a red headed stepchild by the aftermarket industry.

I put new OEM's on mine (it only has 16K on it, long story pertaining to 2" leveling kit) and it made quite a difference. I could compress and decompress the old shocks so easily if felt like no dampening at all. Monroe told me July for the sensatrac's, which I want to do all around. W will see!

What would be totally cool is if Bilstein made them like the Ford models that you can change the bottom spring seat with a c-clip to level it 1" or 2",Really nice but very expensive, might be worth it to maintain ride etc and not mess with spacers.

i am still working with the reps from bilstien. also wont be avail, until end of 07. even though dodge has five different part numbers for our shocks. they dont mean anything. it is a gamble if you replace them. they could be better or the could be worse. they are the same design as the jeep liberty this is what they look like

The TRX4 is suppose to have "special" shocks per the brochure so I got a vin and had parts look them up, they referenced to the same shock my lamarie is suppose to have. My parts guy found2 current numbers (others were superceded), one lists for $40 the other for $60 each, these are the one's I got.
Are they the same part # as the jeep Liberty?

I have contacted my dodge dealership as i am working on putting in TRX shocks in the front of my truck and a 2" leveling kit and a 2" block kit in the back so that i will have 3" lift in front 2" in back. My dealership quoted me at 130 per shock up front for the TRX shocks, im still talking to them about pricing cause that seemed expensive unless he quoted wrong and that is for the pair, but i will keep you posted as that lifting will be done within a month to accomidate for my 285/75/16.

My parts guy thinks it is the springs not the shocks (see TRX ride height post) and TRX4 springs are about $120-$130 each. My shock # is 5161274AC $62 each, $131 something with tax, that is probably what he meant, but definitely let us know if you use a different part and price.

other shocks
5161265AC $39.42 each
5161273AC $39.42 each

Thanks,
LB

Hey Savage,
It looks like you have a better parts guy! I found this on Dodgetalk forum;

5174564-AE Front $135 $105.24
52855684-AD REAR
and looked them up onhttps://www.dodgeparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html

When you buy these, measure from the lower mount bolt center to the lower spring seat, I would like to compare with mine.

Oh, and a suggestion, take measurements of ride height BEFORE you touch it, unlike me!!!

If it is the shock I think your solution might be exactly what I am looking for as well!

Thanks,
LB

Information on OEM shocks is good. I'm gonna wait for the aftermarket stuff. If Bilstein, Rancho or Monroe comes out with some stiffer shocks than the OEM's, then that's what I'm gonna do.

In the meantime, I hope they do it soon.... 'cos I'm startin' to get seasick with the mushy shocks I have now.

Waiting........................................... ....
