stick with the pros at K&N they do airflow tests and have the best design. they might look the same but the shape and size is all factored into it. It looks like the home depot prodesk built it!

Read the disclaimer again at the bottom after the install instructions. That says it all. Spend the money and get a real CAI kit.

I have a DIY intake that the g-tech says is as good as my friends K&N. his truck gained 6 at the wheels according to the g-tech. I gained 5. I spent 50, he spent 249...
Have you ever had your truck dynoed? It would be interesting to see the hp and torque curves compared to the K&N. The ideal comparison would actually be if you could borrow the K&N system from someone and do a few runs with yours and a few runs with the K&N on it but that's a lot of work.

Also, did you by chance make a post of how you made the intake? I'd be very interested in seeing that if you did.

I think the BEST budget solution is to spend the 99.95$ on the Airraid modular intake tube that connects to the stock box, and then get a drop in K&N filter for the box at walmart, like $25 by me. You get the ebst of all worlds. A plastic intake tube, a K&N filter thats in a box for off-road and water protection. The box that holds the filter itsself cant possibly cause restriction.

Go take a look at your air filter box and tell me where it is sucking are in and tell me it's not restricted. There is a member on here though that took out that small inlet hose and put like a 4 inch pvc tube in. That's the way I plan on doing it and is the smartest way of doing it if you don't want to hassle with running the intake to outside of the engine bay.
