They've already proven they can't understand the concept of "don't spend more than you make", take away their gas tax and the national debt will probably go up twice as fast! [sm=headbang.gif]

One of the reasons gasoline price is so high
is that EPA, Cailifornia Air Resources Board (CARB) or other State agencies have put out rules requiring a special blend of gasoline for that region of the USA.

This RFG (reformulated gasoline) special blend stuff adds 20-40 cents per gallon. It keeps refineries from being able to ship anywhere in the USA when temporary shortages develop. It makes the gasoline we import from Europe's refineries more expensive and limits what states can use imported gasoline.

The RFG has a very small effect on reducing pollution. Perhaps 0 to 5% at best.

Tell your congressman or senator that you want one gasoline blend for the entire USA.

Tell him/her this is a national security issue (it trully is) and a great money waster.

Tell them that if pollution needs to be reduced the more cost effective way to do it is to require that catalytic converters and oxygen sensors be recycled every 60,000 miles. The EPA admits that this would reduce pollution 20-30%
and would also INCREASE MPG by about 5%

Actually when the O2 sensors start going you usually lose a little power and mileage, my old teg actually ran noticeably better when I replaced the sensor (Other one was a stock part, guessing it was original and the car had 170,000 miles on it).

It can pay to learn to use your cell phone's text messaging to find cheaper fuel prices. See old post below:

article on five ways to quickly find cheap gasoline:

http://www.lifeclever.com/5-ways-to-...ind-cheap-gas/

in particular this cell phone trick:
----
Tracking prices on the computer is nice, but it's way more convenient to get
prices when you're actually on the go.

If you've got a mobile phone, this is easy.
411Sync has a myriad of SMS text services.
Among them is a cheap gas search. Here's how to use it:
1.. Text the word "gas" followed by a 5-digit zip code.
2.. Send it to 415-676-8397 or sms@411sync.com.
In a few seconds, you'll get a response with a list of gas prices. GasBuddy
and MobGas also has their own SMS text messaging but doesn't offer phone
numbers to send to, only email addresses. If your phone supports texting to an
email address, send your zipcode to these addresses to get prices:
sms@mobgas.com
gas@gasbuddy.com
gas@fuelgo.com
===
my cell phone does allow sending text messages to @ email addresses and the
gas buddy one above worked and was quick.

The sync411 service using just numbers did not work for me on all zip codes
tried but it did work...a little slower than gas buddy.

Note that some of the services just require the zip code be put in the body of
the message, but the sync411 requires gas and then the zip code.

If you are presently getting 9-13 MPG in mixed driving
and less than 18 MPG in highway cruise
it is relatively easy to get up to
16 in city driving
22 in highway cruise.

the (long) Ram Pickup MPG Improvement FAQ explains how to do this with an emphasis on 'cost effective' mods:

https://dodgeforum.com/m_447500/tm.htm

This is a long read, but are 'no bull' discussions of how to improve Ram MPG and have been reviewed by active and retired engineers of Dodge competitors like Toyota and GM.

The FAQ was last updated May 7, 2007
