Talk to me about DVD systems......
I want to get a dvd system for my truck for the kids. I want the system in the dash and the screens in the headrests (2 screens)...anyone have system name suggestions and places I can get them??
Well I haven't seen many systems specifically for that, one can easily be put together using an in dash dvd head unit and screens. I would get some quotes from a few audio installers around your area and see what you're looking at from there. I have seen a few companies that sell headrests for vehicles with monitors already in them (saw that in Crutchfield I believe) but I have no idea what the quality of them is like. If you're pretty comfortable with car audio installation you could try getting the parts and doing it yourself. I do recommend staying away from the wal-mart brands like dual and jensen.
Edit: Here's the company that does the custom headrests, they don't seem to have anything for the dakota though. http://www.vizualogic.com/

Anybody try to put an overhead one in?
They seem way cheaper than the headrest kind, but not sure about the install...

I have he overhead in my minivan and hate it. Most of the overheads, you have to put the dvd in the overhead itself (let me tell you it is not east if the kids want to change a video while driving and both are in car seats). My kids have learned that unless mommy has to stop and pull over for something then they have to watch the same movie over and over. It wiould be nice to be able to switch from the dash.

I would do this... JVC AVX2 head unit. under $400. Alpine 7 inch headrest monitors. (check around, they retail at around $400 each but you can get a pair for the same price on ebay...) The nice thing about the headunit is it will play DVD on rear screens while driving with no mods or bypasses. the Kenwood doesnt unless you bypass the neutral safty switch... you could have less than 800 into it if you find a good deal on screens and install... (another good durable screen is the Directed screens, they run around $200-250 each...)
good luck with system. the only downside to this set up is you cant listen to music while your kids are watching ****....errr. I mean a movie.

LMAO yeah I like that I can do that in the minivan but only if they wear their headphones (which my2 year old doesn't like to do).
