They have little nubs that you plug into the tailgate latches on either side side of the tailgate. Push them down and it locks the extender down so it can't flip up, say like on a bumpy road or something. Just pull the tailgate handle and the latches pop again and you're all set.

looks real good. i was looking into getting one of these and your comments and pictures answered alot of my questions. But i still have one question. Will this particular extender work if you have a soft tonneau cover? it looks like those nubs whens its folded in will hit the cover? is their any way to fix that?

You could yank them off I guess

Seriously I don't really know without having your cover to look at. What I CAN do (and I'll try to remember to do for you) is actually check to see if they physically are higher than teh bed rails.

Tacoma Area huh.....Thats cool. I live over in the Lewiston Clarkston Valley. I'll be heading back over to Seattle to watch a baseball game on the 24th of this month. I'd be willing to be money that the Reds are going to kill the Mariners.

Oh yea, looks good.

Like the bed extender. Is that a line-x bedliner? How do you like it? It looks great. So much better looking than my drop in plastic liner.

The soft tonneau covers usually sit up higher than the rails do anyways...

At least on my Extang they do.

Thanks. The Line-X liner is great. Its a little rougher than the Rhino but doesn't seem to get chalky either. I bitched and moaned about the price ($490) until they agreed to tint my windows for free.

I looked and the rubber nubs are resting on a raised portion of the bed floor. So figure you prob get about 1/2" if you adjust the nubs to rest on a lower portion of the bed. This should only put them 1/2" over bed rail. THe nubs are prob 3/4" so you have additional potential of 3/4"-1.5" as well.

Hope that helps.

are you going to drive with your tailgate down now? that's one reason i would buy it... is that legal if you have the extender to just leave it down and no block the air? that'd be cool.

If you're thinking of doing that for gas mileage don't bother. They tested it on mythbusters, you get better mileage with the tailgate up
