Lets assume that the 4.7 dak has 230 hp. (I read235 in some consumer review ; something about trucks built to be sold in cali had 230. Whatever.) I'm guessing that a modded exhaust, CAI, jetII, and an electric fan will safely put me at 250. What is the consensus here? Riddle me this: Would a MT dak register a higherhp at the wheels than an AT? Finally, are there any othercheapish bolt on mods that will give a power increase?besides cams? (how hard is it to put the cams in any way?)

You could change the factory airbox and the exhaust. You could have an exhaust system built for less than $400.00 if you have it customized.

Another good one is the trottle body. That's fairly cheap at www.TheFastMan.com.

I saw on a show on tv that an exhaust system does not add horsepower it only frees up what is already there. Factory exhaust systems are restrictive so a better flowing exhaust lets the engine remove exhaust gasses better. When you see horsepower and torque numbers of 230hp and 295foot pounds of torque for our dakotas 4.7L V8 these numbers came from an engine dyno and does not take into account the weight of the truck and other factors. So in order to reach the 230hp and all you need to do a lot of work to achieve those numbers at the rear wheels. I would like to put my truck on a dyno to see what it can do but haven't been able to find one in the philly area.

That's a nice goal, 230 hp@ rear wheels. Have to add cams, TB, headers to the shopping list.
