Default OIL

I put alot of miles on my 4.7 L 05 dakota annualy (mostley highway).I was wondering if synthetic would be a good way to go? I also live in a warm summer, cold winter climate. Any responses would be great. Oh, and which oils you prefer most.

Synthetics are less prone to breaking down from excessive heat, and superior to dino oils in every other way as well.........except price. However, you can stretch the time between oil changes with a good synthetic. I buy a 5 quart jug of Mobil-1 at Wally World for about $23.

Yes, I am a complete beliver. Almost 1K miles on my 07 Dak and I am going to be changing ALL fluids to SYnthetic soon. BTW, the auto fluid ATF+5 is allready Synth, so no need to change that.

I change my mobil 1 in my dakota every 15,000 miles. The last 2 cars we had were M1 as well, with 10,000 mile changes, one of em, which is a mercury tracer thats now used as a backup car has somthing like 210,000 miles on it, and its gotten mobil 1 since day 1, with 10,000 mile changes. I hardly ever have to add any oil over the 10k period to this day. The vehicle before that was a 87 Toyota 4x4 pickup, we junked it with like 265,000 miles. By that time, it had all sorts of problems but consumed very little oil, and that also, 10k changes.

I got 15k now because Mobil warrants it with there new "Extended Performance"

Amsoil is good too, but it cost more, and you need to order it online. Although Amsoil will claim a longer interval, like 25,000 miles, the BITOG forum among others has proven M1 to last longer through realistic conditions.

M1 and Amsoil are the only true PAO synthetics, and are the only two that can withstand such a beating through exteneded mileage. Castrol Synthetic follows in third if I can remember correctly, and all the others are no better then conventional when it comes to extended drains.red line, royal purple, etc. shouldnt be run for longer then a good conventional.
