Well i know the tailgate lock topic has been talked about before but i couldnt find much talk about the electric version of the lock. I am thinking of getting a tailgate lock and i like the concept of the electric one but does anybody have any info on actual use and install? My main concern is how can you override the lock if you lose power to it in the locked position, such as a dead battery, which would suck to happen with my tonneau which locks from the inside and to have your jumper cables in the bed which you now cant get to. Well let me know what you all think of the product, heres the links to the two different brands. Also any input on which brand?

well if you had a power tailgate lock I would also add on a key lock with it also like your front doors then if the power didn't work you could just unlock it with the key! that would be the smart thing to do man!!!

 

Unless both are integrated into one lock that won't do anything for you. If you have two seperate locks, one key, one power it defeats the purpose of having the power lock unlock with the truck, you'll still have to unlock the key one manually. It also defeats the idea of having a way to unlock it if the battery is dead (key lock isn't attached to the power lock so how is it going to unlock it?). From reading the descriptions it seems as if the Pace Edwards would be more secure but I'd have to see better diagrams of them to say that definitively.

 

ok well we have power locks on our trucks with a key hole to get in if the truck goes dead! same concept that i was talkin about!

 

Must be one unit then, can you find out what kind they are?

 

I'M SURE YOU CAN BUT YEAH I'M NOT GONNA put a lock on the back of mine...i got this mopar symbol thats like a mirror and i'm gonna take off my stock handle have the symbol shaved into my tailgate and make that a funtional tail gate handle to open it! i think it would look hot!

 

I wish I had a key lock just to keep my gate from geting stolen.

Lol, that's nuts. Around here you could probably take it off and drive around with it in the back, nobody would take it unless it fell out.
