Finally found a place for a sub!
I bought my truck August 6th and started my quest; finish the audio system (I have the Premium Alpine system but they do not supply a sub, 6" speakers are made for mids not lows). After seeing the knowledge that some of youhave on this forum I was shocked to find only one real configuration for the sub (behind rear seat rendering itunable to fold). I was actually impressed with that setup but wanted to take another route. I bought a JBL GTO 8" Sub (because they love small sealed enclosures) and mounted it in a box that follows the angle of the front console and continues to the area the cupholders are normally in a Quad Cab. I upholstered it to match my interior (or as closely as an amature such as myself can do) and will be wiring up the amp tomorrow. Let me know if anyone is interested in pics, if so I will figure out how to post them and get some up.
Thanks to everyone that has shared their knowledge on this forum, I appreciate it.

thats a good idea. i was at a show not to long ago were a guy had a cc and wanted subs. what he ended up doing was putting the subs in the bed of his truck fully enclosed and cut holes from the bed into the cab ran some type of construction tubing between the two. and fitted the subs up against the tubing. weird but it worked
Funny, every time someone posts a post like mine I wonder where the hell the pics are and now I am the guilty party. Shame on me. I will tell you this, in my commander I had 2 12"'s in custom built ported boxes; this little JBL is not as loud (I never really used them to their potential I just like building a different type of box for each vehicle) but it rocks! Rap Rock Blues you name it this sucker fills in the music so you can really feel it and it is not "boomy".

Now that I see the pics I am a little bummed about how they came out. Must have been the lighting. The enclosure matches the interior WAY better than it appears. It was a tough enclosure to build, make fit, and keep with the recommended internal cubic volume. The switch is a key switched power source but I like to have a way to kill the amp and sub when I have talk radio on etc.
Ooooooooh, I never thought about a kill switch for listening to talk radio, not that I listen to it, but that's a REALLY good idea!!!
Just run that to your remote turn on lead, I assume?

Yeah the remote lead runs to the switch then to an ignition switched power source. I keep the switch on most of the time without the worry of killing the battery, I turn it off during my morning show on the way to work which is a little too early for music. I am ordering an 8" steel speaker grille from Crutchfield.com, it will work very well. for now I am okay, when we take the kids we use the commander.

Thats a good setup for an 8 inch sub... but if you want a larger sub like a 10, you will probably need to go behind the seat. It looks great tho, and if you want someting a little closer to the upholstery of the truck, check out selectproducts.com. they usuall have a lot of OEM carpet and leather.
Frenchy, you have an alpine head unit. you can attenuate the subs from the H.U. The switch is a good idea, but if you plan on running 3 or more amps (right, who will in a dak?) you will start getting remote signal degrigation. (a lower voltage than required for the amp to turn on) the switch isnt really the culprit, but it does ad a bit of resistance to the circuit.
Good job on the enclosure. thats a good choice for sub as well. the only thing I dont like about 8's is the lack of frequency response in the 40-60hz range.
good job.
